okay... im guessing... by getting a relay, what would normally turn on my stock fuel pump, turns on two devices instead? (inline and intank.) i talked to h-t member turbokid, and he said something about a relay being near my fuse box on the driver side. can someone explain to me invery simple terminology if i got this right, and how i would go about this. does the relay have to be in a specific area? do i just go to radioshack and ask for a relay? also, in arturbos pic... he has numbers like 85, 86, 87, 30... etc... what do those numbers represent?

i dont know crap about electrical stuff..

b4 u start note this each pump needs a relay.!
your stock pump already has one.....

go to radioshack and pick up a relay...youll see that the prongs
the relay has, ans labelled accordingly...85, 86, 86, 30.... this is so
u know which signal to attach to the corresponding prong.

NOW youre stock pump already runs off a stock relay,
if you install an intank pump, (be replacing your old pump)
you dont need to do anything... just wire up the positive and the
negative.!

IF you install an inline pump, you add a relay.

because each pump needs a relay.....

the one under your dash is the stock one, and the radioshack relay
u can mount it anywhere u like, just follow the wiring instructions
set out in arts pic, and you'll be fine installing the inline..

okay... a few more questions and i should have this installed tomorrow. the stock fuel pump line... where do i tap that off of? is there a line going from my fuel pump to the fuse box? i dunno if its the same for every car or not. and why do relays look like wall sockets? it seems that wires could come lose from them... thats about it. i guess i got everything else down.

i used a test light to find this one...

i had my useless sibling sit in the car and turn the key on and off
while i had test pins on the wires that lead to the top
of the gas tank...

when u remove the rear seats youll see the connections...
with a test light ground out one prong, and poke the other wires with
the other...which ever one lights up when u turns the key
is responsible for priming the fuel pump...ie stock signal wire..

everyone said this would only take 30 minutes... they lied! (meaning it sounds really difficult.) i dont even have a test light, i think i will have my electric-savvy friend help me out. that means i have to listen to his speech again about "all motor = more respect" etc etc

this step may not be suited for all HT members..:::
take out a stock turn signal wire. and cut the ends off...
crimp connectors at the ends for ease of taking them
out again....for what u ask...test light

rig up some wire and loop it around a steel nail...
presto...ghetto rig test light.!

I just followed Art's diagram when I did mine last month. It's pretty simple, really. The hard part is getting the pump mounted and running the wires. Other than that, you need to tap the stock pump's signal wire into 86 prong of the in-line's relay. The stock pump signal wire should be mostly yellow with a green stripe.

umm last question... the inline fuel pump has only a positive and negative on it. couldnt i just hook the negative to a ground and the positive to something that turns on when the car is on? the ignition basically?

yes the inline has two wires..a positive and a negative
no you cant hook it up the way u said with just the two wires only
why, i dont really know..

just wire up a relay and call it a day.!!

so is there a wire in the engine bay that you could use to hook up the 86 electrode to? Does the stock pump signal wire run anywhere close to the fuse box in the engine bay or is it under the dash on the driver's side? As well, could u hook up the 30 electrode to a switched 12V source or does it have to be constant? By switched I mean something that turns on when u turn the key. Lastly, for the 86 electrode, can I hook this up to any other switched 12V power supply, and why is it best to hook it up to the stock signal wire? Does it shut off if the engine is not running? My biggest concer is burning out the pump if the engine is not running but I have the key in the run position, thus powering everything including the pumps. Thanks
