So i just ordered a set of 81.5mm wiseco low comp pistons for my turbo build and they have numbers stamped into the top of them. I was just wondering if i should take a light grit sandpaper and try to smooth them out or if its nothing to worry about? I've read that any sharp edges will create hotspots and possibly cause detonation, have any of you experienced this?

I wondered the same thing when I bought mine..... lol my wiseco's are still stamped

so you just left it alone and installed them anyways? any problems so far?

my ERL motor i got built they didnt do anything to stamps on the pistons and ive got around 5000 miles on it. so i assume its safe. just debur your pistons like normal and you should be good to go.

Not that I know of, didnt have any odd pre-ignition issues or anything out of the ordinary, I doubt if it was an issue they would continue to stamp them.

so does deburring piston tops really help with detonation and power. Endyne promotes this practice but im scared of doing it to my brand new wiseco's

i deburred the entire piston, numbers and all...the sharp edges are no bueno.

I asked this a while ago, and everyone said to scuff them up good with a scotchbrite pad and be done with it. If you knock down the high spots, the rest will be filled in with the light carbon layer that always forms.

Are those raised or inset into the surface?? Its hard to tell from the picture.

Each little dot that makes up a letter/number has a raised edge on them if I remember correctly. I am not at the house or I would go to the garage and check on them for you.

I say this would be your best bet if you were worried about them causing detonation. Not to sound like an ***, but I feel that Weisco has done their R&D in a fashion that they would not stamp their pistons knowing the stamp would cause problems with use.

My thoughts exactly...i dont think they'd do something without thinking it over and knowing whether or not it was safe.

Just take some 1000 grit and sand it down a bit.

They will be filled with carbon and not be an issue I am sure.

i noticed that too with my wiseco piston for my DSM and really didnt think much of it till now. I just installed them and its got about 5000 miles on them and not a problem.

I just pulled a plug on one of my cylinders and looked down in there, could still read what the numbers said, and I have over 1500 miles on these pistons.

just looked at a used 81.5mm wisco i had laying around and its definitly not raised from the surface. the marking is very subtle and most likely would just become a spot for carbon and such to reside in...

if anyone wants pics from multipule angles i can provide them.

When I took mine to the meachine shop he smothed it out! Said it was better to have a smoth surface.
