New Factory turbocharged Honda in the u.s.!!!!!
dunno if this is a repost or something but the new acura rdx suv is a 2.3l i4 vtec turbocharged engine which puts out 240hp and 260ft./lbs of tq.!!! unheard of in a honda, but im wondering is this thing a k-series??? the suv has an awd setup but im sure if its a K then it shouldnt have any problems bolting up to a rsx-s 6spd.
if anyone has anymore info on the motor please let us know!!!

the exhaust manifold is cast into the head. so that limits you right there. also, the turbo has a variable area turbine setup. the engine is also MAF, not MAP.

Re: New Factory turbocharged Honda in the u.s.!!!!! (wantboost)
There was an article about this in Sport Compact Car an issue or two back, where they talked to someone like the lead developer of the engine.
I remember them saying that the tranny is different from a normal K, that it was closer to an Acura RL tranny than that found in the RSX or Civic.
I don't remember all of the exact details, but the article should be on http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com.

double nasty. cast right into the head, that is just weird, what if the manifold cracks?! And MAF, I guess that isn't that bad...

its really just the bottom end everyone is interested in, and if mating it to a k20 head, and manual tranny (via adapter plate) is a possibility, it WILL be the bottom end to have....cuz its already "built"

in this case i think thats like saying what if the head cracked, doesnt happen too often. i beleive the new si has a similar design, obviously its not turbo but it would be cool to just be able to bolt a turbo right to the head. one less part to worry about. even though now we cant have sweet EL manis.

from what i've heard about people swapping this motor is the clearance issues so some major hood modifications would need to be done

many turbo cars now are coming with part of the turbo cast into the head.
SRT-4 is one prime example.

I thought on the SRT-4 the turbine housing and the exhaust manifold were all one piece, but not "cast into the head". ??
I would love to hear more about this engine. Anyway you see it, the more turbos in junkyards the better.

yes the srt4 turbo is not cast into the head but the exhaust manifold and exhaust housing are one on the srt4, so basically this is only good for the bottom end, i wonder how much more built it is, hasnt there been a couple stock block 500whp k20's already??

Does it come with forged pistons and strong rods? Built for boost yes, build for 800hp prolly not. Im sure the motor is going to be expensive, and hard to find, for the price you could just get a normal k20/k24 and built it for boost, slap on a typeS head and call it a day. That will be a better setup then the stock turbo motor im sure.

very interested in this as well. does anybody know the engine code? if you could mate it to the the type s head and tranny, that would be a mean stock motor setup.

It's a K23A1... It won't mate to another K-series tranny without a plate... Besides I think the sh-awd drive setup should be of more interest. This was the first project I worked on when I came to Honda. Never thought I wanted an SUV until I saw this thing
forget swapping, I see a nasty SUV sleeper in the near future

Cool video.
Man, watch that boost just fall off in the upper RPMs! lol.
I bet that thing could really benefit from a larger turbo
And it looked like it was running more than 14lbs stock, which means the engine is well built. Even if the blocks wont' swap over, what about the pistons/rods etc.? It would be cool to be able to use some stock RDX pistons/rods in a high boost K20 setup.

why the larger turbo ?
Its a variable turbine turbo, and likley why it had impressive torque numbers, because of the adjustability of the turbo to make the most power where it needs it.
it probably needs to be un-honda'ed or reverse-engineered- mess around with the trim/flow "maps" or settings i guess you could call them, and get more power out of the OEM turbo.
Kinda crazy to think about actaully, i wonder what the potential of this variable turbo setup has
