Default need opinions on turbo head build up

The stock head is coming off my built and sleeved gsr for repair of a valve guide. Its time for a little upgrading and strengthening. I was quoted $1400 for a full ferrea assembly w/ port and oversized .5mm ferrea valves.

Its very tempting but a little expensive right now. Lets see if you can come up with something not quite as good but still pretty sweet. Im still running the stock gsr manifold so money saved may go toward a new manifold.

My goals right now are 325-350 hp (reliable on pump gas 14psi) with a redline of 8200-8400 rpm on stock cams. I would like to see suggestions compatible with a further build up of 400-450hp with a new turbo so no mismatching parts.

My ideas so far are:
JG Edelbrock manifold
A mild or moderate port on head.
Portflow inner w/ or w/o outer springs and retainers
Ferrea springs w/ or w/o retainers
.5mm oversized intake and/or exhaust valves
Standard size SS valves

The quote of 1400.00 for everything you listed is a very good price. Ferrea stuff is the best you can buy IMO, so buying that will guarentee that the quality is there. You will need broze valve guides with the ferrea ss valves, which run another 75-90.00.

The .5mm oversize valves is a solid choice. I went with standard size ferrea valves, but the head was already built. I actually have the entire ferrea valvetrain; springs, retainers, valve guides, valves.

The port and polish is not needed, but is def. welcomed. You can easily make your HP goal of 400-450whp with an unported head. With a ported head you can flow air easier, so you can run less boost and make the same amount of power.

The JG intake manifold is a solid choice. I am still waiting on mine from KS motorsports, hopefully it will show one of these days. I have a skunk2 manifold sitting for my all motor engine, and its tempting to throw it on there. The JG will make more peak power than the skunk2. I think for a boosted application you cant go wrong with either manifold. Check out http://www.ef-1.com and see the dyno graph of the itr vs JG manifod that they have there. They gained like 20whp by just the intake manifold at 12 psi (?...i think).

Headwork will get you the HP #'s that you are seaking much easier. If you want to spend the money, open up the head you wont be dissapointed. I am betting on 14psi you will be closer to 350-375whp with a built head.

On a last thought, turbo cams will dramatically change your torque curve, and extend it towards redline instead of dropping off early. I am personally going to run rocket's m21 FI cam when its releashed in a month or two. They are going to in the neighborhood of 600.00. This will contribute towards the heads overall ability to flow.

Where's that DYNO chart of the ITR vs. JG? I couldn't find it.

I would save any head porting for last. do it AFTER u have decided which cams, which turbo, which size valves, size piping, exhaust manifold, intake manifold etc etc and you will see the biggest gains.

I understand what you meant about saving the porting for last, so that its matched to the rest of engine, cams etc.

However should I get .5mm oversized valves, bronze guides and dual springs for now, since those will likely always remain constant in the build up?

Edit: On second thought the .5mm valves might not be a good idea since I wouldnt be taking full advantage of them without porting.

You probably wont take advantage of them without porting. You are letting more into the combustion chamber with the larger valve, so you need to take advantage of that with a mild port job, and combustion chamber work. Also, if you pick a turbo cam make sure that you can run the cam with the .5mm oversized valves. The skunk2 turbo cams you can only run them with the standard size valves i believe.
