need opinions/suggestions on my gsr turbo build
Hey guys,
So after cracking a valve a month ago or so, and pulling out the head, i have decided to do a full rebuild on my gsr motor with about 87k on it.
Im planning on boosting it during the winter so i need opinions and suggestions on the parts that i have decided to go with...
So far the head is being rebuilt with the following:
Ferrea 6000 series valves
Itr intake valve springs
Swapping the gsr dual intake springs to the exhaust side
Itr intake cam/gsr exhaust cam
Oem valve seals
Oem lost motion assemblies
5 angle valve job
Head will be put on the block via arp head studs, new headgasket, seals, and misc small things.
The block will also get rebuilt this week, but with more forged parts such as:
Cp pistons 9.8:1 stock 81mm bore
Manley H beam rods
Arp rod bolts
Acl race bearings
Brand new gaskets and misc small parts
Im wondering if this would be a good build, and if im missing anything or can make things better...
Btw its gonna have an sc61 attached to it. Hoping to be anywhere between 350-400whp
Any help would be appreciated...

depending on your budget, I'd consider darton sleeve, which will also allow you to run 84mm pistons, what i would do if the money was there (just cause you are gonna have the engine apart anyway). IMO

I was going to mention this but you can easily make power on stock block with some forged internals. Good choice on the mani.

yea i can sleeve the block, but for my power goals, its really not worth it. I have seen stock bottom ends with stock sleeves pull 350 easy. So with a good piston/rod combo and some other strengthening, i dont see a problem.
Sleeving is something for more of the 400 and up category i think.

That will save you some money in the long run. The thing is If you were to sleeve it and have it tuned then you would have the ability to use a boost controller and turn up the boost. Say for going to the track or pissing someone off in a gt mustang. You could DD it on low boost.

Re: need opinions/suggestions on my gsr turbo build
Hey guys...Thanks for the help, and i decided to take your advice.
Instead of building the block myself, i found a good local deal and picked that up instead. My plans did a 180 degree turn, but for the price i paid, it was ( i think) very worth it.
I would have easily spent the same amount of money building my block, and it wouldnt have nearly the quality parts or amount of parts that i got in the block that i just picked up...
so let me get some feedback to see if my purchase was a good one, or if i should sell it and go a different route, maybe something not so heavily modified...
Anyway, my goal is 350whp, SAFELY...
GSR block
Benson 83mm sleeves
CP 9.0:1 pistons
Manley I beams
ARP rod bolts
ACL bearings
Water pump already on
Oil pump already on
Oil pan already tapped and TIG welded.
as opposed to what i was gonna do originally which was:
GSR block
Stock 81mm bore
CP Pistons 9.8:1
Manley H beams
ACL bearings
and still needed to get a new water and oil pump.
Oil pan still would need to be tapped.
The labor expense justifies the Sleeved block, since i would probably pay just as much as i paid for a sleeved block as i would for my original build.
Any suggestions on how to make it even better or more bulletproof...

Only way to make it more bulletproof now, is a good tune...put it together, and take it to the tuner...he will do it safely for you

Yea man your build is about as Solid as it's gonna get for your power goals...but like the guy before me said, the true teflon adder will be the tune. I'm making north of 400 on mine and let me tell you, all the forged parts in the world doesn't give me the safe feeling of the tune job I got done.
Best of luck to you and your turbo GSR, and may you crack as much *** as I have with mine.

Re: need opinions/suggestions on my gsr turbo build
I have no worries regarding the tune, as it will be tuned by Jeff Evans, arguably the best tuner on the East Coast.
That will give me a piece of mind at least, so hopefully between a solid block build and Jeff Evans' extensive knowledge, i can make this a reliable and fast motor.
O yea, and that saying (Reliable, Fast, Cheap...Pick TWO) is completely true....I chose Reliable and Fast, which means it is not cheap. After all i have gone through, i can tell everyone first hand, that it is expensive to make everything work properly and with high reliability.
To all the people getting into motor building, serious power adders, etc, i can give you one piece of advice, do it right the first time...it would be a ****ing hassle going through all this crap over and over again...
AND GET A GOOD TUNE!
