NEED HELP, turboed civic won't rev past 5k rpms
here's the set-up TD04 greddy kit on a 98 civic (on for 1 month)
AVC-R (boosting between 6-10psi)
V-AFC (using AFC hack 1k-4k = -40, 4.5k = -38, 5k = -36, 5.5k-7k = -35 this is set for both low and high, NO missing link, NO fmu)
RC 440cc
walbro 255lph pump
NGK BKR7E
Ignition retarded 3 degrees
fuel = 45psi
compressoin is 150 across
problem - this happend once the first week i was diving the car boosted. I pushed the car hard on stock boost and it would "pug, pug, pug, pug" once i hit 5k rpms....even if i hold the pedal down it won't budge past 5k rpms. I did the compression test next day and it read 150 across. I made a minor adjustment to the VAFC because the fuel went low to high to low at one point (an error on my adjusting). After that it ran fine. Tonight it did the exact same thing. It won't rev past 5k rpms or while in gear it either (happens in ANY gear when i hit 5k rpms, other then that it drives fine in any gear as long as i'm not at 5k). I was boosting 7psi and it just hit a wall when i was pushing it. The boost is fine, and it all #'s look fine anytime i'm below 5k rpms. I put it in neutral, hit the gas....revs fine until 5k rpms, and again it won't budge. What should i do now? What could possbily be wrong...thanks for any comments or possible soultions.

is there a rev limiter on the VAFC, or something i'm not aware of? i'm still not to familiar w/ the unit.
my sensor in is 06 and out is 06 and has been like this the entire time...the sensors are working fine....

problem fixed, well for short time at least...i just started the car, it's been off for 2 hours now, i hit the gas and reved it up to 6.5, no problems...... what this means, i have no damn idea....because i've driven it hard before and for even wayyyy longer....and no problems.....strange...very strange...could it of been my plugs?

Your problem probaly lies in the either the wiring of the (afc, avcr) or your tunning of the (afc, avcr). A loose pipe wont cause that problem. You might want to put a missing link in or check valves, remember honda ecu's aren't meant to read boost. Also you might want to put in a fmu or fpr, it wouldn't hurt.

check yor distributor. i'm not sure, but maybe the dist. rotor? what are you using to retard the timing?

used a timing gun to retarded the ignition...i'll check that today, as well as my plugs....if they're grayish/white, i'm going to be pissed.

This happend to me when I added 40 shot of NOS to my last application. I retarded the timing 2 more degrees and it stopped. but I also have a ignition **** to do this.. It will also do this when like they said your wiring is mumbo or you dont have a missing link.!

Well anyways, I've noticed an oddity in the AFC's relation to the ECU. See, the ECU won't engage VTEC unless certain criteria are met, among those, the car has to be past a certain TP, the VAFC doesn't know this and forces VTEC to engage whenever it exceeds ** rpm. The end result? Well the ECU sees the big cam is operating outside of normal circumstances and throws a CEL, and suddenly my car won't rev past whatever my VTEC point is placed at. This happend to me after "hanging" around the upper rpms for a few seconds w/o punching it. The CEL poped up and my car just died and didn't want to rev past 5k (I checked the code and I don't recall exactly what it was but it was something with the VTEC oil pressure switch malfunction etc etc..)
Bottom line, try not to keep the car above the VTEC point if your not at more than say 50% throttle because it can (it has to me) freak the ECU out and go limp.

i'm thinking about just changing the VTC point a little higher, like say 6k rpms...thanks for the feedback guys.

What's you plug gap, maybe it is too big, and when cylinder pressure builds the spark can't jump the gap. With no ignition your gap should be in the low .030s. Just a tought.
