Default need help with turbo vs supercharger

price aside i need to figure out which is going to produce best bang for the buck and be reliable on a 1996 gsr with stock engine internals. my main concerns are which requires the most upgrades to run and which will provide best gains with stock b18c1, as well which will provide least hassle as it will be used as a daily driver

for upgrades i have t1r 4-2-1 heaader, t1r test pipe, and spoon n1 exhaust. as well as spoon drop in filter on factory airbox. i understand that i will have to swap out the headers if i get turbo but can i keep spoon n1 with either set up?

youll be able to keep the test pipe and exhaust on either setup.
With turbo, like you said, youll have to replace the header.
How big in diameter is your exhaust? 3" is usually best for forced induction.
Usually turbo's will provide more horsepower per pound of boost just because of the amount of power that it superchargers use to make them work.
turbo's are cheaper and easier to come by. More informatiuon is out there about turbos.

I vote for a turbo

rite now the piping diam is 2.5"
i just read a forum comparing sc vs supercharger by rory breaker, and after long debate i am still unsure. basically if ur driving from 3000-4700 rpm normally with occasional 5500+ which will provide best power. in that other forum it was said that higher rpm is required for turbo to spool up and sc may be better in the lower, daily driving range; whereas, sc will not provide high speed gains. wut im basically looking for is someone who has experienced these differences and can provide feedback on how much lack of boost there is in either case......

another issue i am concerned with and has kept me from considering forced induction has been the types of things that can go wrong with turbos.........as well as turbo cool down, how much of an issue is this as well how much of a hassle is it, if any.

Turbo spool time can go from none to alot. It depends what you want..You said you want daily driving power? Then you would go with a smaller turbo which would have next to NO lagg at all. But would hurt the top end performance. Im running a t3/t04e with .63 exhuast ar. Mine is full boost around 5-6k rpms in 1st gear, all the other gears im full boost by 4000rpms. But thats on the bigger side of turbos for my engine size/setup. Also turbo manifolds change spool time. I have a Drag style cast manifold which spools faster, but some say hurt top end. if you have 2.5 inch exhuast, you are fine for either. Turbo cool down is mainly needed if you have been running the turbo hard within the last few minute before parking, I typicaly let mine cool down for 60seconds. IMO if you want power in the DD rpms...id go with a small turbo.

thanx that is quite helpful.

this is a half decent link explaining the two, but do u know about much difference between small turbo and supercharger, cuz they seem to be quite similar except for backpressure and temperature that the turbo creates

Im still pretty sure superchargers dont boost full boost till late in rpms...since driven by engine rpm.....so smaller turbo at fullboost from 2k rpms -7k rpms..gonna make more power than a s/c a anyday
