Default Need help (Turbo Guru's) on my dyno session tom. (3-10-02)

I recently upgraded to a bigger turbo and Im going on the dyno for the first time Tommorow.

I have a couple of important question to ask, first I will give my situation is, then I will ask the questions.

Im running a stock OBD2 GSR ecu. However, I have a 95 block and it does not have a crank angle sensor. (On the OBD2 blocks, it's located by the oil pump)
So in turn, Im getting a CEL code 54 for it.

So here's the questions:

1. If I have this code (54), does it affect my fuel settings, even if I try to change it on the VAFC?

Im pretty sure Im running on limp mode (but from a reliable source), Im only running on limp mode when the rev-limiter kicks in earlier (@6k rpm), and this has happened before (the limiter activating earlier).
Im running a wide band O2 sensor, so I will know the answer tom. but I would rather know before I get there.

Im putting the wide band sensor on the primary O2 bung.

2. Would the settings be off if the primary sensor is not in, even at WOT?

Thanks in advance for your help. Any other dyno tips will be appreciated.

cant u just buy one of those obd2 wire harness converters to change it to an obd1? since u got a 95 motor... id figure it would work out better that way.

For some reason.....My car ran better with the OBD2 ecu than the OBD1.

At the track last season....with the OBD2 ecu...I got an avg. of 2 mph better over the OBD1 and this is with a minimum of 4 passes each, alternating ecu after each pass.

Hey, Paul its Jason, code 52 would affect ignition timming more than your fuel settings, as far as running with out the primary o2, obd1 would throw a code but it would not affect wot, part throttle might run too rich but wot is fixed, should not affect fuel curve,at wot.But obd2 ecu run's best with no codes,so I would get a 96 and up oil pump, and put on a crank angle sensor,Should not take a chance running at wot with tempermental ignition timming, good luck, Jason

Sup Jason,

I meant to get the 96 oil pump from my blown motor but I could not get the crank pulley off, even with an impact gun.

The reason Im going to the dyno is because the new turbo I put in did not run as good as the smaller turbo. It's either too big or just need tuning. Hopefully the motor (still stock) holds up tom.

I just came back from Nanuet (NY) and picked up a wire harness so I can run a 95 ecu. I will let you know what happens.

Let me know when your coming to e-town. Call me or e-mail me.

Later

The dyno went OK.

My best was:

318.4 whp and 222.7 of torque. These numbers was on the same run.

My a/f ratio was at 11:1 at 6k and up. A little rich, but I like it conservative. The motor is still stock.
This was at 11.5 psi and 12 deg. of timing at idle.

My baseline run was a 285 whp.
After turning up the boost by 2 psi and tuning of the VAFC, I gained approximately 33whp. I forgot to print out the base line torque numbers.

I still believe that the smaller turbo put out more power, even though I did not take that to the dyno. I know because of how it feels on the street.
I guess I wont be seeing any 11 sec. timslip with this stock motor anymore.
I will be going to E-Town this Wednesday, if weather permits.

I think this turbo is just too big.
