Default Need help on spool up times for a t3/t4 turbo.....

I'm getting ready to replace my t25 turbo with a t3/t4 turbo since the seals are going out cause I'm a moron (don't ask lol its a dumb story). Well since I really liked the way the t25 would spool up (I'm talking about full boost by 2500 rpms!) I'd like to find a t3/t4 that spools up similar to the t25. This is going on a stock d16y7 and I plan on no more than 8-10 psi with a Tial 35mm wastegate.
A friend told me that I should check into the .48 a/r 50 trim but wasn't to sure about the spool up time. Can anyone tell me or estimate? Also, is there a t3/t4 turbo the spools as fast or close to the t25 (2500 is full boost) and is still capable of making 10 psi max?
Thanks a ton,
Nick

it is pointless to try and find a big turbo that spools fast. I just bought a T3/T04e for my d16, .50 trim and .50 A'R, I'll let you know what the spool times are...but I'm not worried about that, a T3/T4 doesn't start making it' true potential until about 10psi and more....so I suggest you either replace your t-25 or go w/ a smaller turbo, maybe 16g etc...

The problem with the 16g is trying to find a manifold outside of the kit. I was going with the t3/t4 because it was the easiest to find a new manifold for. keep the suggestions comming,

equal length tubular manifold, 3" dp, 3" exhaust, ballbearing turbo, lightweight fly wheel, larger displacement, nitros, smaller a/r.

Those are all good but I was looking for more help on the turbo side. Like what kind of specs to get on the t3/t4, or recomending another turbo with manifolds that are easy to find for a d-series motor.

On your car dude, you could expect full boost by no earlier then 4000rpms... My guess is a tad beyound that. Of course this depends on the trim. My t3/t4 doesn't hit full till 4300rpms. I could only imagine how much more lag would be in your car being its smaller displacement. Of course the smaller t3/t4b might be a tad quicker, not by a whole lot though.

Since a T3/T04 is a hybrid of a T3 turbine and T04E compressor housing, then doesn't it stand to reason that one could "mate" a T25 turbine and T3 compressor wheel. I think a mix of doing this and forking the cash over for ball-bearings would be more than sufficient. At least do the bearing option.

Good Luck,
Nick

That would be a way but I was looking for a cheaper option, where I could just buy a t3/t4 turbo with a small enough ratio or trim to do what I want. What about a t3 turbo instead of a t3/t4? Would they use the same manifold?

Just get a t3 60 trim. It sounds like what you are looking for and they will be less money too.

Wait. First of all, what kind of manifold are you using now to mate the t25 to a D-series? If you're using the STD/HF manifold w/adapter plate, then I'm assuming it's flanged for the Mitsubishi turbos...hence the t25.

Anyways, check out AGPTurbo.com. They can REBUILD your T25 into a killer T28. It'll flow about as much as a BIG16G, but spool is instantaneous. ForcedPerformance.net also rebuilds t-2smalls to a Big28 too. Let's just say that their Big28 is good enough for high 11's on a full weight 2G DSM.

And the best part is that you send in your old core and they'll give you credit towards the bigger turbo.

Yeah I'd love to just keep my t25 cause I love the instant spool, but I'm having trouble since the wastegate isn't opening, so I'd have to buy an external wastegate and weld the flapper shut. BTW I have a custom made manifold with a flange for an external wastegate. I bought it from DSF on this board.

That sounds good. Go for at least a 35mm or 40mm WG.

yeah everyone else is telling me there is no point going to a bigger turbo if I want the spool to be the same on my ***** *** motor. They don't see the point in going out and buying a new manifold, turbo, downpipe and wastegate and knowing that its not going to be exactly what I want, when all I'd have to do is buy another t25 for 100 bucks max, and have the flapper welded shut, and buy a tial wastegate and be done. Thanks for all your comments
