Default need HELP on newly installed parts

i just installed pistons into my b18 motor, and i tried starting the car today, and it was pretty hard to get it to idle...my friend told me it's because it was running hella rich..any advice or comments on this situation??? is it normal for it to do this after ripping the motor apart?? i have a fuel pressure regulator which i have to tune still..thanks for the help
