Default Need Help with adjusting GReddy Type S BOV Soft? Hard?

How is GReddy type S suppossed to be set/adjusted? I'm running from 8 to 11psi, but I dont know the Proper way of adjusting the blow off valve and the differences between soft and hard...

any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Someone told me today you just adjust it for sound, that "Hard" pops more with louder whistle, but that it makes no performance difference...that sounds hard to believe...

So whats the truth?

You dont want it too hard because you will have compressor surge. Just have it soft enough so it wont open up during boost. Again, dont adjust it too hard.

Adjust it to the softest setting, then adjust it to at least 5 full turns. It should be ok there. Do you know to adjust it?

DOnt I back off the locking nut and then turn the threaded stud?

Adjusting to the softest position, that should be all the way counterclockwise? And I think clockwise, or in is HARD.

But if I back it out, will it stop or come all the way out?

You are correct on how to adjust it. Dont take it out all the way. Just back it out some and then go from there. I didnt have to adjust it very much when it came from Greddy. But I did make it soft just to be safe.

What is compressor surge and how do i tell if thats occuring?
Compressor surge is when the pressurized air inside the charge pipe doesn't not get released into the atmosphere via the BOV, and instead fights its way back towards the turbo. So imagine a strong wave of air going back towards the turbo WHILE the turbo is still spinning and producing more air going towards the T-body.. a big clash occurs sending waves back into the turbo and damaging the wheels. I've personally seen turbo's that were a victim to compressor surge and let me tell you, they are far beyond repairable. Unfortunately, you cannot tell when this happens (usually). It's mostly too late when you find out.. cuz at that time your turbo will be usless.

Another thing im wondering is i keep having to turn up my boost controller (GReddy ProfecB) to keep the same level of boost, now, with it turned all the way up (Hi Boost) it wont even go to 10psi, and it used to be at 11psi turned all the way down...

what gives? could the BOV be bleeding off pressure so the boost is not building up? Or is the boost controller taking a ****?

aaarrrrrrgggggggggggg...

let me know what you think
