Need cam gears for turbo GSR?
I am going to put together a turbo set up for my GSR. I am selling some of my parts I won't need to fund the turbo parts buying. I have a set of GE adjustable cam gears (NIB) that I could sell along with the laser cut valve cover for more turbo money.
If they make a difference in tuning a turbo car to run right I will keep them. If they are not important I will sell them. I plan to have stock internals and only boost 7-8psi or so. I will run a Hondata and have it professionally tuned. I need this set up to be healthy and reliable more than anything else. So my question is -
Will the tuner need adj. cam gears in order to make the car run right? Or would stock timing be the safest, most reliable setting on a boosted car anyway?
I want this car (when done) to be as fast or faster than the typical factory turbo car(GST,WRX,maybe EVO) but mostly just as reliable as a factory car. I don't want "will it break/blow" in the back of my mind whenever I get on it.
The guy I plan to have do the tuning told me they were not necessary, but if someone that really knows turbo cars (like Suprdave or Mase) were to say otherwise I would keep them and consider a different tuner. Thanks.

Yeah, planning for a dyno tune. Would the gears be needed to tune it to run reliablely, or is stock timing the safest way to go anyway?

stock tuning isnt bad BUT for maximum power output (regardless of Idle quality. they are a must.
you shouldnt be able to adjust the cam timing so much as teh valves would hit the pistons, but make sure you get a quality set. pref with 4+ mounting bolts. Stuff like the AEM 3 bolt gears tend to start slipping after a bit.
reliability wise, they are not needed.
