Default Need advice on "pump fuel" before i hit the dyno again next week!!!!!!!

hey guys. I searched this abit but since everyone has different octane levels of fuel where they come from, it kinda hard to judge what people mean when they say they're running "pump fuel"

So here is my question. I'm going in on Thursday to get a cage put into my car and at the same time, I'm hitting the dyno again for another tuning session.

Last time I tuned I made 300whp @ 17psi on 94 octane. Here is a quick summary of my setup at the time:

D16Y8
Stock head with the cutoff at 7800rpm
Vitaras
eagle rods
GT2860RS

Now I want to make at least 350whp on my new tune and setup. (the car is not a daily driver). My new mods are:

Skunk2 springs, valves, retainers
B&R catch can setup (2 venting valve cover, and one for the crank case)

Here is the thing....no matter what, my tuner says that he refuses to up the boost past 20psi on 94 octane. Is this correct? I was thinking that 22-23psi would be fine on pump fuel.

Do you think ill make another 50whp with these mods and an extra 3psi? Do you guys think its safe to up the boost past 20psi if i only make 330whp @20 psi?

I need some advice here....lol

on a single cam id try to run higher octane at anything over 350whp to be safe.

Isnt it the amount of boost that is important when talking about potential detonation and pinging due to low octane rather then the power your making? Isnt that irrelevant (when talking about fuel)?

In all honesty, I think your tuner is trying to tell you that he is NOT comfortable tuning above those PSI and HP on 94 octane on your setup, and you should probably respect that since it is your investment on the dyno.

If this isn't your daily driver, throw in some race gas and throw it on the dyno.

When you run it on the track, throw race gas in it, and bam. More boost, more power, no pistons shooting out the side of your block.

Where are you getting 94 octane? Do you have E85 in your area? If it truely is 94 octane id say you can go 21 or 22. 23 is sightly pushing it. If you run E85, you could run 25psi easy.

Some people do it. Some people will tell you thats too much. Its depends on the turbo and the timing.

I live in Quebec Canada. Petro Canada's here sell what they claim to be 94 oct....now whether its a true 94 oct or not i woulnt be able to answer that. But I can for sure say that it is significantly better then the 91 that they sell

Thats bad *** you can get 94 in your area, 91 is the best around here. Also, I forgot this is not a daily driver. Id go to 22 if your tuner will allow it.

If it were me I'd listen to my tuner. If I didn't like said tuners advice/work, I'd take my car elsewhere and get a second opinion.

You could always do E85 if you have the injectors for it, or a mix of E85 and pump gas, or if you don't have big enough injectors, run some toulene in it for high boost and just add it whenever you want to run high boost.

I make 352/251 @ 24psi non vtec sohc on 92 octane, its not that its impossible, its that your guy is out of his comfort zone with that, either respect it, or find another tuner
