Default My sleeved b20 is being built. Should i upgrade the valve springs?

Maybe "should" is the wrong term. Do I "have: to would be better...

I have my b20 getting sleeved and they are cleaning up the head (3 angle valve job). They called me today and recommended i upgrade the valve springs/retainers. Put the cost at around $350. I am putting $2400 into the job right now and $350 is a good chunk of change to add to it.

Before you answer, let me point out that its a stock b20 head and i RARELY rev the thing past 6k rpms. I plan to run around 15lbs of boost on it. I NEVER race the car and it is just a project toy for driving around and learning. Can i get away without doing the springs?

Thats kinda what i thought as well. He mentioned that the added heat of a turbo application can cause the springs to stick in a compressed form smacking the valve on the piston. I wonder if this is at higher rpms. If it was at normal rpm numbers, i'd think we would hear about it more often on homemade turbo projects.

Thanks for the info.

Also, is case of a mishift, you have that extra protection. I can't tell you how many people I have installed dual valve springs for and they thanked me a couple months later because they have mishifted and went way beyond their redline. I would def. recommend them to save your motor in the future.

Personally, I would have them installed as a safe guard as previously said.

I was in the same boat. You might as well put them in. What if you float a valve and ruin your freshly bottom end. YOu will be pissed
