My rant about Moroso Oil Pans
I got a moroso pan for my Civic. After I installed it oil leaked out of the drain plug and the plug on the front of the pan where the oil temp guage thing would go. So I pulled those plugs and put some teflon paste on them and put them back in. The oil temp. plug worked ok, but the drain plug still leaked. So I tightened it some more and no more leak! Now I just went out to change my oil and tried taking off my drain plug. The plug just turns and turns but doesnt come loose! I had to take off the front oil temp. plug to drain my oil, but that wont get out all the oil because of the baffles in the pan. Anybody else had any troubles like this??

sounds like you overtightened the bolt. that's user error. isn't that pan made of aluminum? that's your fault

I had one on my turbo B18B, never had any leakage problems.

my buddy had a boosted EK with a b16a running a moroso oil pan, it leaked on him quite often... probably his fault though http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif

For the amount of money this pan costs I was suprised to see people have so many problems.
You may have stripped your pan, but I have heard alot of other horror stories from these pans and I am staying far away from them. Sorry you had to find out the hard way. Just drop the pan and retap the drain bigger. Randy |
Re: My rant about Moroso Oil Pans (RGAZ)
They dont give any torque specs so how can you know when you're overtightening it? Even if they did they put the drain bolt in a shitty spot. You cant even get to it with a rachet.

Re: My rant about Moroso Oil Pans (JMinSi2000)
That is so true about the shitty spot where the oil drain is. Mine just got striped but honestly, I didn't even tighten that much, way lower then stocks' 33 ft.pound. and it still stripped.

I didnt even get it that tight...i'm just gonna use the plug on the front of the pan for now. I figure I can stick a coat hanger in that hole and hit the trap door on one of the baffles and get it to open so I can drain all the oil.

Do you have a copper or aluminum washer with the drain plug?

The moroso pan is susceptable to damage from overtorque.. If PROPERLY installed, you wont have any problems.

Re: My rant about Moroso Oil Pans (tonydatyga)
You don't need a torque wrench to tight the plug lol. Moroso pan is nice though. I wouldn't mind to have one. Everything for imports are so expensive http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsad.gif
