My oil pressure is @ 0 when idelling
Oil pressure is @ o psi when car is idelling. It goes up between 30-40 psi when i'm driving normally. my setup is ls/vtec with turbo. before I went turbo I had problems with vtec. it wouldnt activate after the car gets warm. I put the oil pressure guage now and I find that pressure is not there. do u think my oil pump is bad. I put 2300 miles on the motor with that pump. Please somebody help
How can I test to find out if my oil pump is bad.

Have you checked for leaks? When my oil pressure dropped to 0psi, I found out that I had a leak on the oil fitting, .... Got it fixed, then, 2 days later, started leaking again... ANd I say, ah fuckit. It's only a teaspoon a day.

Lemme guess ur using an autometer oil pressure gauge that reads up to 200psi? My friend had the same problem. It ended up being the gauge. I put my 100psi on his car and it had good pressure at idle.
Those autometer gauges that read up to 200psi are ****...get a new one.

Or it could be in the oil pan. I don't know what it's called, but there is 2 10mm nuts holding a gasket to the rest of the block. Come to find out they backed out and that was the reason I had no pressure at idle. When I drove down the freeway my pressure would be around 40psi, but not much more than that. I always thought it was a kink in the line, until I decided to drop the pan and there it was.

I am not sure about a B series motor, bu on a D16z/y motor, you can shim the oil pump to get more pressure. I had a low oil pressure when I had my turbo installed, then we shimmed the oil pump, and now it is alot better.

mine is tapped from the stock oil pressure sensor on the back of the block and i get about 12-15 psi @ idle... might be a faulty sending unit or gauge

only 12-15 psi @ idle?? is that right? My GSR idles at like 40?? At least thats what my brand new autometer gauge says.

which plug is that. I checked for oil leaks, nothing
I changed the pump to brand new gsr, oil pressure drops to o psi after 5 minutes of driving. checked oil pan, cleaned pickup, still same problem. vtec does not work after 5 minutes. what else it can be. Thanx

I have a 100psi Autometer oil gauge. Not sure which unit the sending unit is though... probably 100psi huh, or it wouldn't work right
I also get between 15-25 psi at idle, definitely no more than that. Driving is 75psi at about 3k+ rpm.

took main bearings off and one of them is shot. gonna change them and see what happens. hopefully that would fix the problem.

Re: My oil pressure is @ 0 when idelling (25 PSI CRX)
A high mileage engine will see hot oil pressures in the 10-15 psi range at idle. Mostly due to wear. This isn't really bad since the load at idle is pretty small.
Most gauges are not accurate below 15 psi anyway, the 200 psi oil pressure Autometer is too coarse to read below 20 psi.
My engine has 232,000 milesw on it and never saw a rebuild. I see hot oil pressure of about 11 psi at idle using Mobil 1 5W30. No major problems yet.
