MY FIRST HOW TO: making a flange for the Apexi Filter *PICS*
This is my first write up... nothing major but I hope some people use it
tools:
pencil
drill
Here is a picture of the apexi filter by itself...
tons of threaded holes with nothign to attach to it!
My local homedepot had this treasure - a PVC drain for showers and such.
Another shot of the backside of it.
you can unscrew a piece of the PVC off and you get this:
4 bolts are located here that hold another piece of pvc that is not needed
Taking those bolts off will take apart the two pieces of PVC as shown here:
Using the left piece, I can use that as a template for the flange! By holding it against the filter, you can see how the corners of the openings line up with the threads on the filter....
now you rest that piece back into the main PVC part and use a pencil to draw a couple dots based on what you saw in the previous step.
Drill the marked areas and you make 4 nice holes
now with the 4 bolts that came with the filter (or in my case, mine didn't come with any so I used 4 10mm bolts) Bolts the puppy onto the filter and this is would you should get

Looks good....but,
Theres actually a better flange that HomeDepot retails that works even better. From that picture, it kinda looks like the inlet is only 2 1/2" maybe?
Look for a 3" drain flange that has this gratting over the top of it. It is perfect for the Apexi filter...and...its black.

i believe the universals come with GASKETS not flanges
so you have to make your own
