My D16 Build Thread *Pictures*
So i I set out a few months ago thinking I would boost my little D to see what she could do.
I started acquiring parts and I wanted to see exactly how little i could spend and so far this is the grand total.
T25, HF Manifold, blow off valve, downpipe, oil lines-140 Shipped
Intercooler and charge piping and couplers-65
Chipped p28, obd 2-1 conversion harness- 280
Dsm 450cc injectors,clips and inline resistors-66
vacuum hose, various clamps and fittings- 40
that makes for 591 dollars and i did all of the cutting and welding of the down pipe myself in the driveway.
Question Number 1
Can anyone suggest a few things too look over before I start her up. and what to look for when first starting up.
Question Number 2
Im looking at trying to get it tuned soon and am quite nervous as this is my first setup. Would you recomend getting just a street tune or street and dyno tuning to ensure its as safe as possible? this is my daily and I drive about 500 miles a week
The pictures will be here soon but im working more than I am taking pictures

well when you start it for the first time make sure to pull the ecu fuse so it wont start and turn it over until the oil pressure light goes out. that primes th eoil feed with oil. then i would make sure nothing leaks once its started. do a quick check to ensure the BOV is working properly also.
as far as tuning goes i would make sure to get a good reputible tune on a dyno and then test drive it on the street right after to ensure proper a/f for all around driveability.

Always make sure your wastegate is securely attached to a vacuum source. If it comes off, the line is cracked, or is never put on, you will boost until something breaks. Definately use a pressure gauge. Even if its a cheap one that isn't that accurate, you can still tell the difference between 10psi and 20psi. Also make sure your turbo has its oil lines hooked up, and that there IS a restrictor in the line. IMO any used, possibly blown turbo needs a restrictor, or you're SOL rebuilding it very soon rather than much later.
Asside from that, the tuning won't be a big issue if you only go to 11psi. The turbo isn't enough to demand dyno tuning, as long as its used with good gas and your street tuner knows what he's doing. You could gain 10-20hp and a margin of safety with the dyno, but I've always been a fan of real-world tuning too.

I have a quick question myself, as I am working on both a D and B project at the same time. Did you change out your pistons and rods or leave your bottom end stock? Best of luck on your build.

well after putting 2 new sets of bearings in and both of them spinning , i decided the crank is [freak]ed up and i just need a z6 or a complete y8 bottom end with relatively low mileage that has never been disassembled and has no problems. Anyone?

correction. boost source. i.e. turbo
you dont want vacuum applied to a wastegate.
