My B18B Turbo

My B18B Turbo
....soon to be...
Basically the picts sum it up, I bought 98 B18B with 90K on it and went to town. I have a buddy helping to put the enigne together. I have a 98 GSR shell to put it into and will eventually go turbo. Haven't put much thought into a turbo yet, but aiming for 300-350 HP. I tried to build a stronger engine than necessary for a little safety factor. Only issue so far with the assembly of the engine is the spring install height is off about .025", but we are looking into that. Other concerns of mine are putting the LS engine into a GSR shell, where I would be using the engine's original ECU(98LS). I am hoping it is plug and play.

Re: (lsturbo*)
Just an update on my progress...Also, what kind of issues will I run into putting this LS in a GSR? Will driveshafts from the LS work? How about electrical connections, I have the LS ECU to go in this swap. If anyone has done this swap befor can you offer some advice? Thanks
This is the GRS Shell I am putting the LS engine into...and will be turbo someday

with the right turbo you got yourself a stout motor capable of producing some good numbers, that clutch looks a little "whimpy" for the setup.
Good setup non the less.

yeah, the clutch is a ACT HDSS that can handle 243 ft-lbs. Like I said I really want to be at 300 HP, so I hope this clutch will do it. It is a fine line between a strong enough clutch and too stiff of a pedal. Keep in mind this is a daily driver so I need some sanity.

Re: (lsturbo*)
I haven't done a LS into a GSR but, I've done the other way around. I used my stock LS axles and everything when fine. Both the engine and the car were 99s. I did run into one small issue electrically and that was that the tdc (forgive if I get the name wrong. It was 2yrs ago.) was in the wrong plug at the shock tower. I'm assuming this will be the same for you. I hope this helps.

Re: (Turbo(less)DB8)
everything in the build looks great. i just bought a 96 RS today and looking at these pics is making me very jealous. i wanted to do a b20 turbo, but now i'm thinking about another b18b and just boaring it. what CR are those pistons?

Re: (paton5g)
I thought there were a direct replacement of 9.1, but looking at the paperwork, they are 9.35 so just a hair over stock. I went with 83mm in case I ever need to clean it up in the future. I have heard the sleeves can go to 85mm max.

thanks for the info, but could you explain the TDC sensor problem a little more? I assume you are talking about the crank sensor mounted under the timing belt cover?

Re: (lsturbo*)
was that a block guard i saw in those first pictures? where did you pick that up? is that an alternative to having stronger sleeves put in, or would you still run one with new sleeves?

No block guard, that piece you see was installed from GE when the sleevd the block.
