B16: Seeing as the head studs thread into the block I would think that you should use B16, I could be wrong though. You can call a local shop or ARP

Im looking for around 450whp on 93 octane and over 500 on race gas. Like I said in the first post I have not decided on a turbo I am still researching what will work best with my set up, if you have a suggestion feel free.

B16 450whp on pump gas is gonna be hard maybe if u use E85 or get a big *** turbo and sacrifice daily driving.

Dont even look at the 5857 for those goals. I believe the 6162 they dont make em anymore. 6262 is a little too much turbo for those goals. My best bet is GT30 but im 99% u wont make 450 on 93 octane. To get 450 or 500+ ur gonna have to push that GT30 more than 30 psi on race gas I believe.

My 2 humble cents

Do a Pt6262 for your goals, not a bad street turbo... I have a PT6268 and its perfect on the street

I had a Garrett t3 gt35r BB w/.63 hot side on my street car, and I loved it. It made 500 on 93oct, This was done on an ERL 84mm gsr block, 9.5:1, ITR head(stock port), supertech valvetrain and skunk2 tuner1 cams.

I dont have any experience with a 30r, but they seem to be great for that hp range, not to mention they probably spool a bit faster.

I was actually thinking about the 35R, im assuming that if you can make 500 on 93 octane with a stock type r head and skunk2 tuner1 cams then I should have no problem doing it on a ported and built gsr head with pro1 cams.

I may have missed it but what cams are you running? GSRs guessing since you're using that head?

I just finished a B16 build, makes 278whp @14lbs.

I bought skunk2 stage 2 tuner cams but I'm running GSRs for now.

Good luck either way

I have gsr cams at the moment, probably gonna choose s2 pro1 cams with a 35r for the goals im looking for. Most likely will end up with an inline pro ported head with all s2 internals

Also my gsr head came in this week but the box was damaged by usps and the vtec solenoid, 2 cam caps, valves, and some hardware was missing so that head is basically useless to me without those caps... So i bought a 98 gsr head with 89k miles with vtec solenoid, intake manifold, sensors, etc which makes the situation not all bad. Will post pics of first head and packaging tonight.

your going overboard with those pro1 cams to only go with the power goal you are looking for... gsr cams will get you there fine, save the money. also a pt6262 woudl be a great turb for you to run. remember they boost these stock motors all the time to your power goals with ease. keep it simple.

Your probably right but I will most likely go with ITR cams if I can find a set cheap enough. The 500hp is really just a starting point, I can almost guarantee that I will want more once I get to that point so I am kind of over building it the first time just in case.

Pro 1s are great cams for a wide range of builds, but honestly I think they may be a little peaky/top end focused for a smaller-liter turbo build. Definitely take a look at some Sk2 Tuner 1s, which have about stock primary lobes but the VTEC lobes are slightly larger than ITR/CTR cams. Possibly even some Tuner 2s which also have OEM-like primaries and secondaries/VTEC lobes that are more comparable to the Pro1s you're contemplating. Just something to think about, maybe it'd be good for some of the big boost B16 guys or the turbo gurus (such as TheShodan) to weigh in.
P.S. Skunk2 just announced a soon coming 50% off sale which would be a great time to buy and no I am not affiliated with them in any way, I just have used some of their components in the past which made good, reliable power.

Thanks for the input, ill look into both tuner cams from skunk2. Thanks for the heads up on the 50% sale, that will be a good time to get the cams and im from them.

My second GSR head came in yesterday, was very well packaged with the head(assembled) in one large box, wrapped in bubble wrap and smothered in packing peanuts, and the IM in another box with all sensors intact. I will put some pics up either tonight or tomorrow, then I will start parting out all the things I do not need from the 2 heads.

Get the squirters. No need to block them on this kind of build. This isn't an LS-VTEC where you have to worry about interference from the crank. And there are others besides GT35R and 6262 out there. But for 65lbs/min like the GT35R, the Pro1s are the best option for midrange. Even on the torqueless b16

I've built one b16a with this kind of spec and manage to get 580hp on dynojet with 26psi boost. using gt35r and 97 octane pump gas. but using only b18cr cams. and yes its torqueless.. the engine last for few races and done with cracked liner.. coz i'm using stock block just rebore it to 82mm..
