MSD SCI any good?
 

im gunna be making over 400whp and i heard thats when you should upgrade the stock ignition, i was wondering if it was any good. and is this all i need --->

I've been running the SCI-L for about 5 years......Same box no problem at all

What fuel management are you using?

Hondata, Uberdata, and most other programmable units will take care of ignition timing for you, making the capabilities of the SCI (a 6-series ignition) almost useless. On top of that, capacitive discharge is NOT ideal for turbo situations. Turbo engines really want a long duration spark to ensure ignition.

The "upgrade" most think of is simply an improved ignition coil. On top of that, low resistance wire and a proper spark gap will take car of that thick mixture. On some cars, it is nessessary to build a "flyback" board to avoid frying the ECU with wildly powerful ignition systems, but I have never heard of a Honda guy using one.

damn thanks for the input, so who makes an aftermarket ignition coil for h22's? and which type of wire is low resistance?

</TD></TR></TABLE>Don't forget...you still have to get some upgraded plug wires (NGK are pretty good), new spark plugs, modified distributor cap, and an external ignition coil. I don't have the SCI but the used 6A I have works fine for me along with the SS Blaster coil.

I have seen OEM grade wires run some pretty high power set-ups. I think that you would be best to just re-build the stock ignition system.

im running a blaster ss coil with a SCI ignition for about 4 years and I didnt have any problem but when I bought the kit I didnt know that the stock ignition was fine...

Should I just run the blaster coil ? and sell my SCI ? I put down 300whp on my street tune and I will be doing a little more ( around 350whp on my race tune ) this summer on my D16Z6...

I someone could help me...

As stated above, if you're using any kind of EMS, you don't need the functions of the SCI. The 6A is the base model, and is really all you need to run the external coil [Blaster SS]. If you really want to say goodbye to the stock ignition, you'll need to bypass the ICM, or ignitor.

The 6A and the SCI are the same box except the SCI box is a little better for higher rpms, its silver, it says SCI on it, and it costs more..

So if you had to choose between the box or the external coil, which would be the best to put on first?

should i just get an external coil? which is better hvc or ss blaster? and can i just leave the rest alone or will it not work right/mess up the rest of the ignition set up if i just upgrade the external coil?

You can upgrade to an external coil which will make the ignition system alot stronger.. After that then upgrade to an ignition box.. I used the BlasterSS coil for a long time and it always worked great..

sry for the noob question but is it either or, like if i get the ss blaster i cant get the sci along with it? im gunna run the upgraded coil and if that doesnt solve the issue of my power breaking up at high rpms ill prolly look into a box, u suggest the sci over the 6a coorect?

and why does everyone get the ss over the hvc?
