Default Motor Blown after 1 wk. with turbo

so tonight i take my buddy for a spin in my car 95 civic, 94 LS eagle rods and srp pistons, t3/t04e at 7lbs and rage block gaurd. successfully boosting for one week now and no problems what so ever until.....we go out on the highway pulling hard all the way through 3rd, hit 4th and pulling harder than ever before then bang bang sputter. we slow down as motor is bellowing white smoke from antifreeze, come to a stop and here the vaccuum line to the wg came off of the compressor , and apparently i must have boosted about 30psi(rough estimate) at about 6500rpms (it did pull hard thought). i cracked 1,3,4 cylinder walls at the top. i think that the blockgaurd caused some hotspots...possible? everything else is ok, just need new block. guess its all part of the experience..and all replacable ****

Speed_PHreak had that happen to him at Rockingham, his T3/4e spiked to 26 psi and wouldn't spin any higher. Yours was similar, doubt you hit more than mid-20 psi before the turbo was out of efficiency.

hose clamp the vacuum lines or add more than one for safety

it did the same thing in my old stock b18c engine , it was tuned for 8 psi then spiked to 22 psi cuz of the wasgate hose got off resulting into blowed up piston and rod into wall

say you are boosting 10lbs and your vacuum line pops off the wastegate, you will overboost?

if the wastegate vaccuum line pops off, the exhaust gasses have to have enough pressure to push the WG open... which is usually quite a good amount of boost. but you have limitations based on fuel, and of course your engine management and a slew of other variables.

it will hapen if you are running anything! its sooooooooooooooooooooooo important that you have that sucker on there realllllly good, glued ziptied hoseclamped and help on by a pet monkey. I have heard so many people blowing their motor because of that stupid line. this is tempting me to switch to a braided piece of line because I dont like replacing b16 blocks, for sstupid reasons.

you never look at the boost gauge????????
how could you miss that? im sure it isnt a split second spike to 22psi or whatever you got. also how did you install the blockgaurd?????

haha, the funny thing is my first boost run i lost traction in 1st through 3rd gear and i was like, damn 6 psi feels good! went to go check my plugs and noticed the tube had fell onto the exhaust manifold and melted itself in half... im guessing i hit about 20psi My car still works great with 160 across for compression numbers... 160 psi... 140k miles... w00t

week was great, i was concentrated on the road when this happend, i was doin about 110 around a slight corner, i wasnt twidling my thumbs reading the boost gauge. i had done this plenty of times in the past week while watching gauge so i didnt think i was gonna boost over 7
block gaurd was a race engineering tap in. 1,3,4 cylinder walls cracked from the top to about an 1.5-2inches down the wall. Just makes me wonder what would have happend if the block gaurd wasnt there?

Happened to me too. The wastegate was not working properly. It was set at about 6psi and it would only open at around 15psi. My STOCK b16a2 did not explode. I guess running EXTREMELY rich and having a BTM saved my engine. Oh and thanks to the local gas station selling 94 octane too.

This is the reason I have a boost cut set on the Hondata to right about a psi above my max boost...

I've run 25 psi on a 16g turbo, talk about hot freking air but the car was not detonating. High compression + boost + pump gas = wtf did you expect? Not only that, but i've never so much as heard of a vaccume line coming off the wastegate. Stock turbo cars use them and they work fine. I wouldn't say its bad luck, just a combination of things going wrong tied in with inexperince. ITs not the cars fault, just learn from it ya know.

Shitty deal. Same thing happened to my on my old car except my wastegate stuck closed Seeing my 30 PSI boost gauge pegged and then giving the highway a nice oil bath was not fun, especially since I was about 100 miles away from home

You can look at it from a positive view though. This is a good reason to go built motor + engine management + bigger turbo
