More specific.. Universal MSD 6BTM on a honda??
I have the Universal BTM 6 series.. has anyone wired one of these up?
I'm about to put two wiring diagrams together logically and go for it.... msd and a couple other sites, but no mention of the universal version on a import. All the wires match up except i have no power... i saw on one diagram how to hook up power using an external coil/battery for a domestic.... and the instructions for hooking up a regular msd btm for a honda... along with external coil on a honda and I'm about to mix them together and install it....
anyone have any idea before i do this... it seems like it would work.. but i dont want to fry the distributor or worse.....
help??

Jake, you cheaped out and bought the universal ignition.
It ain't gonna work! It ain't gonna work!
J/K .....maybe it will, but lets see what some of the other board members say.

If you decide not to use it send me an IM since I may need it for one of my 1st Gen CRX Si turbo projects.
Either way, hope it works out for you (these early CRXs of mine have external coils like "Domestics" ... hehe)

I installed the MSD 6BTM on my 2nd gen CRX. It is easy, even with the internal coil.
The basic idea is you connect the thick black and thick red wires to the battery. Directly to the battery, not to anything else.
Then you interrupt the ignitor to coil circuit and put the MSD box inbetween. I don't remember the exact wire colors off hand, but you must cut the wires and splice in the MSD box. I think the purple and orange come from the ignitor and the small red and white go to the coil, but I need to check that.
Just splice the box inbetween the coil and ignitor. It is so easy.

if you really need more help, e-mail me at: randygaz@mobilecellular.net and I will lay it out step by step.

Re: More specific.. Universal MSD 6BTM on a honda?? (RGAZ)
uh.. the Universal BTM doesn't have two thick red/black wires for the battery... thats my concern... it has to be wired with an external coil which is then connected to a battery....
my question lies in the fact that since the universal one doesnt have wires to cut to tell it it's a 4cylinder... does it only work on 8's?? I dont want to destroy my distributor trying to install something that wont work period..

Problem solved... I emailed msd and the one i have is just the BTM it's not a full fledged 6 series. I think it will work, and now i just have to get help on wiring up the external coil, which should be easy once they send the instructions to my fax machine at work.
redline, do you have a blaster ss coil installed by chance.. that's the last thing I need to finish this...

Now that makes sense. I have never seen an ignition box that didn't have the two heavy gauge power wires.
You have the BTm module only.
Whew! Thought I was going nuts there for a minute.

with stock ignition and an external coil.. how does that hook up? the instructions with the msd blaster ss didnt really have good instructions... well not for an import.. LOL
external coil would have two wires coming from distributor wires that went to internal coil.. then teh plug wire to the msd cap i have...??
