hello all, i have been searching for a few hours now and still cant find a decent solution other than buying a new distributor and going that route

set up
Built B16
JG manifold
gt35R
NGK wires

*NGK 8 PLUGS*

gapped now at like .020, or .021

i still get a misfire at like 18psi from 7K rpms on up

I am however running a 6AL box on the car,

i have seen suggestions rangin from
- get an MSD cap and coil
- buy a new ICM
- buy a new OEM coil

just seeing what other solutions are out there

i doubt the car needs 9 series plugs yet

well i just disconnected it, and it put it back to factory, im gonna see how this does, hopefully it will help me diagnose whether it be an ICM, or a coil going bad

I have had problem after problem with msd on customer's cars

ICS's car was only car I have seen without problems.
Heck, he even had a 6al box die on him.

.017 and a stock distributor should clear it up. Had the same issues with my digi 6 on the dyno.

Make sure those plugs arn't very old.

a year ago I idled my setup for a while before we tuned it, and fouled the plugs.

This was the result:


Not pretty. But we changed the plugs and the problem was solved.

For the record, never had any issues with my digital 6 box.

I had a strange power loss on my NA setup last year and I couldn't figure it out. Then the car wouldn't start. It turnt out to be the MSD 6AL. Hooked stock coil back up on the side of the road and she ran mint again. Since then I just use a blaster coil but no MSD box.

I had a similar problem with a customers set-up , B16 turbo. At high rpm's it would start missing and after a while of reasearching there was a metal piece inside the distributor grounding out causing it to miss at higher rpm's. Weird but I took that piece out and it fixed the problem. Car made 299 hp at 10 psi and 398 at 18 psi. Spark plugs were at .20 and was running really good. Usually with ignition boxes we have taken them down to .15. Hope you figure out the problem.

thanks for all the input guys,

since i have another motor on the way a me and a friend on here just decided, to say "lets see what the old motor can handle" so i want to boost her a little more, and tossed in some racegas

i am going to RE street tune today with the 6AL box off


also thanks for giving some more advice on plug gapping

i thought .020 was small but i guess i can try a little lower

u should buy a new stock dizzy. the stock ignition is strong enough for what u r running, and with a stock dizzy ur car is sure to run better than with an aftermarket dizzy.

on a friend's exact setup (msd 6al - msd cap - msd coil - stock ignitor) he had breakup over about 5500rpm

Turned out to be a bad ignitor. We cleaned up all the contatcts in the distributor and swapped out the ignitor and it ran like a champ.

Try swapping out the ignitor in the distributor with another one from a friend and see if that fixes it.

Also you may get some new plugs; they're not that expensive and new plugs can only help

When stock ignitors go bad they dont make themselves obvious but any ignition issues i've had were mostly due to the ignitor, though I did have a stock coil go bad on me once.

Replace the dizzy with msd's new distributor and ignitor and run an external coil. Waalaahh no more igniton problems if everything is in good order. MSD's igntioin boxes are usally more trouble than there worth.

yes i have adjustable cam gears, and i checked them to if they had slipped, because they had once beofre on the dyno

rotor looks good, cap looks excellent, they are both pretty new, like maybe a month old, plugs are only a week old, and they are NGK 8 series, i also gapped them to .017


i also took the MSD set up off and wired my coil back to factory, i will drive it tonight and see what it does, i ve been fabbing up a turbo kit for a buddy all day

trust me; its most likely the ignitor.

When they wear out they can't flow the juice needed to set off an adequate spark.

Just try swapping yours out with one out of just about any other electrical distributor honda.
