Default mfactory catch can install quest.

bout to install my catch can and was wondering. it only has 2 hose nipples on the top of the can should is

a. route both them to the block with no filter setup on the can or
b. route 1 to the block and put a filter on the other

main question is will 1 hose be enough. boosted b16 stock pcv eliminated.

Id route one hose to it then put a filter on the other at least, if not your not venting at all

or weld a neck on the catch can and get a filter to fit, and use both ports.

Search there's alot of posts that would answer this

I'm having this same dilemma right now with my nitroused b16. Here's the deal. That catch can is supposed to have manifold vacuum to one hole and the crankcase vent on the back of the block goes to the other. HOWEVER, this was only for emissions. It puts the oil vapor from the excessive crankcase pressure straight into the manifold. NOT GOOD for performance. Here's what I did. Take that stock can and cut it off just high enough for the outlet on the back to still seal and work. Then weld a plate on top of it to close it off. Weld a fitting onto that plate for an inlet. Then build a vented and baffled catch can with 2 inlets on top and one drain back on the bottom. Run your crankcase vent and your valve cover vent into the top of it, then the drain back runs into the fitting you welded to the plate on top of the stock can. Voila! It's not REALLY a "catch can" in this instance, more like an accumulator. This way instead of just catching the oil and venting the pressure, it returns the oil to the pan. I don't know about you, but I like my oil IN my motors. It's a little more useful to me THERE than in a can on my firewall. That's it. That's how I did it. I hope this helps.

This is what I did... I installed a larger high-flow PCV from a VW we parted recently. Ran the PCV to the catch can, ran the other catch can with 10MM hose to a T near the upper breather hose. The T hooks up to the upper breather outlet (another high-flow PCV from a VW installed), then from that T's 3rd connection to the intake (not pressure side). Block-off the inlet on the IM.

This way, it is a non-vented system, and does an excelent job of making sure it is a 1-way flow system.

No loss in power (make sure this is a less-restrictive systm, I.E. Replace all the smaller hoses for a 10MM hose, and you ge the filtration benefits of the rear box and the can.

The 2nd PCV keeps the airflow in one direction, and having those dub stock breather PCV's keep the flow adequate so no block pressure builds up.... it doesn't get a slight vaccum in there though, but it has proven to work great for me. Most true boosted setups have a seperated breather system anyways.

Anyways it is good to have a breather system that flows enough.

i had the same problem.....you need your catch can to be open vented, with a filter on it......on hose is from the valve cover, and the other hose is from the black box....that is the hose from which the pcv valve is hooked up to......pm me if you have any other question, i'll be happy to help you
