Default max bore size for GE, Darton, AEBS sleeves? 86++mm?

What is the max bore size anyone had on their sleeved b16/b17 block? I've seen ppl using 86-87mm, not sure what sleeve they were using, while I remember some ppl using GE sleeve sez that one should not go beyond 84.5mm.

If a 86-87mm bore is too thin for FI, would it still be safe enough for a NA setup?
Did those using the 86++mm bore encounter any reliability problem?
Since Darton and AEBS uses close deck, does that mean they can go beyond 84.5mm? TIA

86mm is great for the NA guys but way to thin for the normal fi guy. You can probably run 5 pounds safely and make hella torque but i dont think it s really that safe it just too thinn.

Vince at GE told me that 85mm is about the max for a street/strip FI motor. I just bought my 85mm JE's yesterday .

Since NOS does not work like FI, which compresses the air that's going into the cumbustion chambers, will 85-86mm be safe for NOS+NA where the NA setup alrealdy has a 11.7 - 12.5:1 cr?

Just remember this, if you blow yor first tune-up at 85 mm, you have to replace the sleaves. Why not start at 83-84 mm's first so that you have some rebuilding room? You won't notice the dif between 83mm and 85 mm and if you do, just add a pound of boost to your stronger sleaves.

That's very true, I'm actually sticking with my 81mm stock bore. It's just that reading this article:
http://www.hondastyle.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=33
got me thinking, how safe would it be to run 86mm bore with a high cr NA setup and how safe would that be it I were use NOS with it. Just looking for opinions.

Darton says up to 87mm on their B18 sleeves, but that's really the limit, not only can you not rebuild it, but it's almost as thin if not more so, that stock sleeves, and yields about a 2.1 liter. Supposedly the way to go is about an 84.5 which is about 2.0 or so, or 84mm even which is like 1979cc or something like that.

Just remember, the whole point of sleeving is to get some strength as well as some displacement. Staying stock bore diameter won't serve much purpose, especially as they were designed for a larger gore diameter, but going way over kill will very likely cost you in the end...

Later,
Aj

the same reason I went only .020 over (81.5mm)on my GE sleeves. leaves room for error and plenty of rebuilding. unless of course the rod goes thru the block. and for that i use pauter.
