Manifold fitting in a CRX? Turbo OBD0?
Hey guys I have a bunch of questions and am looking for some serious advice. I have a 1991 CRX Si with an OBD 0 B16a, and PW0 ecu. I am going to turbo it. It will be a daily driver so reliability is my number one concern, way more important then squeezing every single hp out of the motor. Anyway I am looking to get a reliable set up with probably around 200-230whp on 8psi. Here are my questions...
1. What manifold will fit with little to no modifications? Keeping A/C is a must as of right now. Car has a 1/2 size radiator. Most likely Ill be getting a log manifold to keep costs down since a ram horn, equal length, or top mount are pretty pricey. Any specific companies known to fit? Spoolin, Nuekin, drag, ect...
2. Tuning. This is my main concern. Would I be safe with an FMU? Anyone have experience tuning OBD 0 with a program such as BRE? Is BRE any good? I have also heard of OBD0edit. Is that good? I would rather not switch to OBD1 because of the added cost.
3. I am not asking you to pick out a turbo for me because I know its an annoying questions but for a MAX output of 275whp is a T3/T4 57trim .63ar going to be to big or out of its efficiency range. More then likely Ill only be having low to mid 200's. I was looking at the Greddy 18g but I think I want something externally wastegated so if i ever wanted to I could upgrade without having to get a new manifold.
Thanks

Log style manifold would probably fit your needs. Like the Drag manifold. From what I have seen on this board you should avoid an FMU and look into some tuning software. Since you have the pw0 you are limited to only a few apps.

tuning is very important get a chipped ecu even if it just has a base map thats better than nothing I got mine from j-k tuning.com

1. Many of the vendors found in the marketplace sell A/C compatable manifolds. That shouldn't be a hard one to find if you go for a log.
2. TurboEdit.
3. That turbo would be fine. Don't go with a 18g.

Re: (Snafubmx234)
Hey bro my setup might help you so here it is:
1989 CRX hf
OBDO PR3 ecu with BRE
Stock B16A block (lowered compression with Cometic .054" headgasket)
Stock B16A head with GSR cams, SuperTech dual Valve Springs
Blox intake manifold
RC550cc injectors
BMC Super Elf manifold
Tial 38mm WG
Garrett T3/TO4E 57 trim (.60 cold / .63 hot)
3" downpipe
It made 281whp/197wtq at 8.5 psi (the boost goes up to 9.6psi at 8k rpm)
Thanks to Church Automotive Testing (Shaun & Tom) for tuning it! They were very impressed with BRE!!!!!!
Heres some pics that might help you

Thanks for all the responses so far. I have found a log manifold that will work for me. As far as a turbo im going to stick with a T3/TO4E 57 trim (.60 cold / .63 hot) like gelok has. And gelok that set up is REALLY nice and thats exactly what i am looking to do. Those numbers are pretty damn good. Im hoping for 230whp on 8psi. Also what radiator you running it looks great.
Im still up in the air with tuning. Its possible for turboedit to be used on OBD0? My main concern is not what to run but who can tune it for me. I am in NY but will drive to NY,NJ,PA,CT ect to get it tuned.

Thanks! I bought the radiator here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1315989
I dont think TurboEdit supports OBDO thou. Just go with BRE so you wont have to convert to OBD1. You'll also save yourself some money and put that extra money into your turbo setup Good Luck with your project!

Re: Manifold fitting in a CRX? Turbo OBD0? (TurboEM1)
Well a buddy had a SiR (1st gen) B16A with a SSAutocrap manifold with a 60/63 T3 turbo. Previous owner put down 270whp @9psi on uberdata. It also started spooling at 3k, def. full spool by 4k (open DP though). Anything between a t3/to4 and t25 will work great.
You will need to be creative to use the EG rad, turbo, and AC. For just 230whp I suggest the following: a log mani would work (might have fitment issues with it being an EF w/cast mani), but would proly require custom fitting. The rad will need to be angled a lot, better if you have a JDM hood (spare room), and best if you have some sort of x-member/traction bar that drops the rad down. Even a 2" DP would give you 230whp at 8psi, so don't worry about that. The thing to worry about is the hydro tranny parts being in the way (unless its still cable), and the rad bending too much (in the turbo compressor's way), and the x-member being too low. Also, you could possibly fit an internal WG next to the AC comp, have the manifold include a WG port and block it off for now. I'd suggest a T3 for now, since a t3/to4 would literally bolt in.
If you want to go the extra mile, I have another suggestion. I had my bro suck my AC lines dry, and I rebent them a bit so I can move my EG rad less than 1" from the frame (vs. 8-9"). I might have pics soon to give you an idea.

Well I am right outside the Lincoln Tunnel (10 minutes) and I'm pretty familiar with the DIY ROM Editors.
BRE is your only option if you want to stay with a VTEC OBD0 ECU
