Default Management: Hondata vs Chipping

Hey all,

I am ready to pull my hair out trying to decide on fuel/engine management options. I have narrowed it down to the two choices you see above.

For the Hondata 2b with 2 hours of tuning and 3 dyno runs, the total is going to be abotu 800 bucks.

If I go with chipping, its going to be about 500, including the price of the wandband 02 (Innovative LM-1) but I would have to tune myself, which in all honesty I think I would prefer as I am a DIY'er. Plus, if I make any changes, I will just be able to burn a new chip.

What do you guys think? My goal is about 200-225 whp with an eventual 300 whp. Here are the specs:

B16A3 W/ Stock Internals
GSR Tranny
LoveFab SST Mani (equal length)
LoveFab 2.5" DP
T3 60/63 A/R 60 Trim
Tial WG
Generic BOV
Swift Perf Piping
Custom 29x8x2.75 IC
DSM 450 Injectors

you can't even compare those two like your trying to do. your options as you put them are to buy a preprogrammed ecu.. Basically what the hondata will be for you. Or get a setup that will let you tweek and fine tune with everychange you make.. And you will make changes. If your comparing price to what you get Uberdata takes it.

yeah, but i figured there MUST be a reason why more people dont do the burn-it-urself method vs hondata.

Plus i am a lil concerned that uberdata doesnt exsist anymore, so my options are limited to what is out there for obd1 stuff... none of them seem nearly as powerful as hondata.. the only downfall with hondata is that i will have to fork out $$ to re-tune every time i make changes.

You could step up to the tunable hondata and have a great system.. I think its like $1400 but I could be wrong. The only boost ready obd1 tuner I know of is Uberdata. Drop shop still sells it I believe. He has the three bar editor also. All I was saying was compare apples to apples.

I finally went Hondata and am waiting for it to come in the mail. I really hope I made the right decision.

I work for a big computer hardware company and I walked to manufacturing area in the back and asked for the best desolder and solderer and was taken to the best in the industry. This guy should have no problem chipping my ecu for me.

Now getting it tuned is gonna be one hell of a bitch.

hondata is chipping.

i run uberdata. imho its the same thing as hondata for most people.... its easy to use and the whole diy tuning thing is pretty underated imho. its not as difficult as you'd think.

Everyone who's voted for Hondata in this poll so far? 75% of them have never used Uberdata or the like.

Honestly, your question is not open for public debate as it is not Hondata versus Uberdata. It's a personal question - DIY or the security of a professional tuner. Both are great options, and every fucktarded opinion on HT as to why one is better than the other is irrelevant.

If i can get a copy of the uberdata software I will probably start tuning them exclusively over Hondata. I peronsally like the software after seeing some screen shots.

Hondata and uberdata are the same thing in that they both are chipping the 28 pin eprom. One costs a lot of money and is more commercial, the other costs less and isn't as commercial...entirely up to the person purchasing.

I would definetly say go with the chipping yourself.. I have Hondata on my wifes car and it works well and all however I do not think it's worth spending the money.. I am going the DIY route now with my car by ordering that LM-1 and the same pocket-programer that hondata uses, just cheaper from the makers direct. This way if you ever feel the need to change your setup, you can do it yourself without spending the extra money.. Also DIY means you gain more knowledge...

I'm using Uberdata and waiting for my LM-1 to arrive. Couldn't pass up the idea of spending less and having my own wideband to play around with.

Tuning with the Uberdata i'm sure is not difficult to do and can be tuned to the highest potential of your setup. Depending on if you're planning on takin this car to the track to do some serious racing or just tryin to get some kicks on the street and protect your investment (not blow ur **** up) should be the real deciding factor. Tuning yourself takes alot of time. Seeing how you probably dont have a dyno in your garage, you're gonna need to tune>test drive>tune some more>test drive>tune a little more>test drive again. My point is, if its strictly for the street, you can base your tuning goals around how good the run feels and how the gauges are looking. If this is a track car, even if you're run feels good, you could be maybe 5 HP short of you're full potential that can't be realized without a dyno and lose a crutial tenth of your 1320. Having said what I had to say, I wouldn't take either side on this debate. It's all about what you need and can handle.
