Main bolts/studs/girdle 800+hp B series ??
Just wanting to see what you higher horse power guys are doing for mains.
We are currently using OEM main bolts (a new set from honda each time) and a oem gsr girdle. Trying to look ahead and see what were gonna need to use in the future as our power goals rise. Here is the current set up-
Stock crank
RS sleeves
GRP Aluminum rods
10.5:1 pistons
11k rpm

might get a better answer in the drag section, but I agree with PFI_NAYR_ONE,also if u use arp main bolts you'll have to line bore the block

Once you switch to a stud then you have to align bore/hone the block. There is no way around it. The bore is ALWAYS out of round after switching to a stud. The reason is the arp studs call for a 75ft.lbs ( not exactly sure off the top of my head.) trq. At this point it dissorts the bore and you then must make it round again or you will have main bearing issues. Now I have seen people try to be crafty or think they are being crafty by only tourqing the arp studs to the factory settings. Well that doesnt work nor does it do anyhting more then a stock bolt. My recommendation to all is to stick with the factory main caps and bolts until you exceed their limit.
Its one of those things where "if it aint broke, dont fix it" I have yet to have main bearing issues or break a crankshaft from spinning it to high or making to much power. I guess it could still happen eventually but I just dont see it happening right now. Maybe once I get some better air up here in the north east and I can make big boost we might run into something but I just dont see it.

Not really because he is not sure of why ARP calls for 75 ft.lb torque. there is no reason to torque main studs beyond the requirement of a factory bolt. if you don't over torque you don't cause distortion therefore not needing the main journals align honed. Also, how does torquing ARP main studs to factory specifications not work or how is that being crafty? I have yet to see any main studs not work or fail by following the OEM specifications.

1fasthf, he knows way more than you
as he said torquing them to factory tq same as oem bolts.
i have yet to see oem main bolts fail
im guessing you need to properly stretch the bolt as to why they give u a specific tq and not tq to factory spec

The arp studs have a finer thread.. Witch means that the same tourqe as oem mainbolts clamps the mains harder than with oem mainbolts.

OK cheerleader.. theres no arguing of which works better Im just giving some info based on personal expirience and a false comment someone made. I have not had to align hone/bore main journals just because Im using main studs. I have personally talked to ARP on this issue and they said to use the OEM torque specs. As you know G.E. main studs also require OEM torque specifications on their main stud kit as well. To OP...you should be fine using OEM bolts.
