Default machining the lip off the compressor (GT30R)

i just got my gt30r and it has a lip on the compressor (where you put the air filter). is there anyway to machine it down? reason im asking is because i wanna use a velocity stack on it instead of the filter. thanks.

Of course. You could file it down if you had no other tools.

dremel would work, only thing you obviously would have to prevent is metal shavings entering the inlet.

yeah either take the housing off or put something in there to block it. use a dremel but don't get impatient and go too fast. before you know it, you will have a big pit or pit(s) in it. good lick

What would the velocity stack be of use at the end of the turbine other than looks. I'd rather have filtration.

yeah not to sure about what it would do, but it would look nicer and i have the stack already. most top mounts ive seen, no one is really running a filter.

just curious... what are your thoughts on it?

A velocity stack on the end of a turbo does the same thing as a velocity stack on anything else, it smooths out the flow of air. If you have room for about 8" of straight pipe between the the stack and the compressor you will get better results.

a velocity stack requires a coupling b/w the turbo and the stack......the lip doesnt impede the use of a velocity stack.....

On a competitive drag car where every .001 matters I can see running a velocity stack. The gains can't be worth it on a street car, imo. The first time you suck up some fod that turbo is dead.

You'd be surprised...my turbo was "up" in the engine bay and after tearing my engine apart, I sucked in soo much dirt and ish it was incredible. My intake manifold looked like an oil spill in the desert

Thats because with (most) topmounts a filter will not fit (at least in civics)...im curious to which one u will be using on your teg..

ive always liked that HKS unit..looks good

if he's got room for the ricer stack, he'd have room for a filter

ricer as in it's got no purpose on a street car, and it's not like you'll make any gains from it.
