Default LSD into GSR tranny ... two questions

alright - i tried posting this in the 'tech/misc' section - but got no love over there ... so i figured i'd post it here since there quite a few guys here running an aftermarket lsd..

so here goes:

I'm getting ready to drop my tranny off to get LSD installed. It's a hydro usdm GSR tranny and OBX lsd ...
I know I need to buy two bearings...is 91005-P80-E31 the part number I need? I think this is for the B16 tranny though - am I supposed to buy the bearing for the GSR's differential? I just want to make sure I have this correct before I order anything..

Anyone have a part number of the bearings I need?

Is there anything else I need for the install as far as parts go other than the LSD itself and these two bearings?

Thanks guys

u need the itr bearing, they are sealed case bearing instead of the two piece ones used in the gsr. You install the diff and the two bearing and close the case and measure your clearance between the bearing and the case. THe is supose to be either .005" or .05". You order the according shim to compesate from honda, they have a buch of them

12 is the spacer 17 is the bearing

there is a break in mid 1998 of GSR tranny from tapered roller to sealed

You'll need the serial number off the tranny to determine this

they discontinued the original bearing.....even if you order it you get the correct one instead.

I posted the correct part number above in my first post. Thats what I bought when I put my itr lsd in my gsr tranny. ITR/GSR doesn't matter, what i posted was the right part number.

I did not need the shim either.

Just ordered two of the 91005-P80-003 yesterday, now sitting on my desk.
PN is still good and correct.

no one really is having any type of problems with the obx lsd ... even if it is cheap ... the only said problem is the axle getting stuck due to an unbeveled spline or whatever it's called ... fix that and you're set. Properly installed lsd haven't broken ... infact, there are quite a few people with 500ish hp running them without any type of problem.

And as for the wrong forum, read my post ... i realized this far before you came along ... but since 80% of the people on honda-tech are unhelpful my post went unanswered.... This particular section is full of technical information, whether it be directly related to forced induction, and every time i've needed anything people have helped ...

but thanks for your answer ... douchebag

is there any place other than local acura dealerships that this bearing (x2) can be ordered?

Even if honda can get them, my local honda dealer is extremely small and will not order acura parts, even if the part number is given.

My local acura dealer is roughly an hour away and i don't really feel like driving that far if i can pay less to just get it next day aired from an online place.

I google searched the bearing's part number, and the only thing that came up was a guy selling it on some 'hybrid' forum.

most honda dealerships can get acura parts also but you have to have the part number, they cannot look it up in their system.

despite what he said, most honda dealerships CANNOT order acura parts. If you want to go the honda dealer route, get the bearing for the s4c (99-00 si)

99 GSR installing qualife lsd

I'm a little confused as well in regards to bearing selection. The guy doing the install says he always used the 91005-P80-003 BEARING A (40X80X17) which is $54.93 a peice. From what I read it appears this was used 94-98 and is a tapered style bearing.

I see Mike was recommending using the 91005-PS1-003 BEARING (80X40X18) which is $38.05 I'm thinking this bearing is the newer style (99+) enclosed bearing.

Can someone confirm that I am reading the different sytle bearings correctly and also confirm which I should use in my 99 gsr tranny. TIA

yes there _were_ 2 different styles. Somewhere along the line they stopped with the tapered bearing and the gsr, si, type R trannies all use the same bearing now. Order the 91005-ps1-003 and you wont have a problem. I have done several quaife installs on si and gsr trannies, ordered through hondaautomotiveparts.com and acuraautomotiveparts.org (you dont specify part numbers on those sites) and each time it was the same bearing. Since then, i allways use that bearing and its never been a problem.
