Figured out why I thought the one nut was stripped, it was actually because I wasn't using a deepwell socket, and the male end of the torque wrench was hitting the stud. Going to pick up a deep well and re-torque them all over again. In the mean time, I used some voluntary studs from the old ls head to put into the gsr head and I mounted the intake manifold.
And I got real lucky in the process, I dropped a nut and went to pick it up, and what is right beside it? The OTHER woodruff key I was missing! Haha, who would have thought I'd ever find that again!
Starting to look like a motor again!

Got bored and decided to paint my valve cover while waiting for my paycheck. I'm going to paint the letters white once everything is dry.

Yes that is what's in there now. Technically it's anywhere from 9.8:1 - 10.2:1 pending on head/head gasket, etc. I'll have to do the math

Please keep us updated because I am also building a motor(GSR) for boost with 10.2 to 1 compression.

I'm keeping this thread updated as much as possible, I'll see what happens when I boost later in the year. I'm breaking it in N/A and then boosting. I won't be boosting too high though

New paint on the valve cover looks awesome!! Is that rattle can? If so, it looks awesome. Exactly what color is that?

Yeah it's rattlecan, I honestly have no idea what color it is! I got a can of it to paint the water tube, and I just picked a nice "metal" looking color that wasn't too shiney or too dark. I'll try to find out when I get home. You can see the process of how I stripped the old paint off in the tear down thread. I noticed I painted it before I had the vent bungs welded in though haha, woops. No big deal though.

Dirty that paint code is not listed on the can, but here is the part number on the sku tag: DE1651 Cast Coat Iron (unless thats the color? lol)

Drop in date is pending on $ haha. I still need the following:
ECU/Harness
Misc sensors
throttle cable/bracket
Mounts
Shift linkage
Couple gaskets
Dizzy
Axles
Clutch
Fuel rail/injectors
And an LSD (not required, but I'd rather put it in while the trans is out)
But hopefully I can get some of those things cheap on craigslist.
Here are some pictures, I was starting to put the cams in but I need to pick up a cam seal. I decided to see how the motor would look with most of the pieces put on it just for ***** and giggles. Turns out my Cam gears match the paint of my valve cover, pretty cool haha.
I know that exhaust manifold is hideous, but it's what I've got and it'll work. No sense of spending money on a new manifold when I plan on going turbo soon after the motor is broken in.

That's awesome, you should definately cut out holes or the entire cam gear cover part of the VC to show that off cause it will look great.

I thought about that, I think I'm going to just let the cam gears poke out of the bottom. I really didn't want to have them exposed at all, but I think I may just have to leave the top cover off lol.

Did a few small things today, got my cam seal and valve cover bolts in the mail today, so I decided to put all that together. Snapped a bolt torquing down the rails on the cams so I ran to Ace hardware and picked up a bolt for that and 4 for the throttle body. The throttle body bolts were too long, the top two will work until I find the right length, but for the bottom I used two studs from an OEM intake manifold. The top two look ghetto as hell haha, so I'll be fixing that soon. Here is some pictures of where I'm at so far.
What sensor is this?! I need to replace it

looks great, looks like your learning alot, just one suggestion, get a good wire brush (one thats not too rough) and a few cans of brake cleaner and go to town on all the parts that look all crusty, hate seeing a fresh block with greasy parts (vtec solenoid, Thermostat housing, oil pump)

Just got my MSD kit in the mail today, there is one little plug/grommet thing I don't know what it is, maybe you can help. See pics.
Here is that grommet/plug thing
Anybody know what that is and where it goes?
Also, cleaned up the exhaust manifold a bit today
