So just hand tight then another half turn with the ratchet? I think I'm going to use a small bead of the RTV anyhow just to be sure, rather not have to deal with it later.

No, just grip tight. Hmm, how do I explain? It's like choking up on a baseball bat. Grip the ratchet at the head, not the end of the handle. Then tighten the oil pan bolts/nuts following the proper sequence. And the rtv is ok, just a bitch cleaning up later down the road when removing the pan again.

I think I may have over tightened the oil pan screws then lol. I'll have to back them off and do it again. I got the pickup, pump, rear main, and pan put on just now. Here's some pictures

Does the dipstick tube look like it's all the way down? I'm not sure if it's supposed to sit flush, but it does NOT want to move down

Just got this in the mail today. Do you guys recommend using teflon tape anywhere here? And when you screw the sandwhich plate on it, how hard should I tighten it? I have a feeling when I remove the oil filter in the future I'm going to have some issues with the sandwhich plate coming off.

Your feeling is correct. Take it back off and apply a thin bead of the same rtv you used on the oil pan gasket to the oring on the back of the plate. No need for any teflon tape anywhere on it. Of course, any lines lacking flared fittings that you screw into the feeds will need teflon tape. You do want to tighten it down pretty good too or it will, as you said, unscrew when pulling the oil filter down the road. I just finished resealing mine.

Right on, so put the RTV on where the oil filter gasket would originally match up? I looked in back of the plate all I saw was a snap ring.

For now just for the oil feed. I ran home on my lunch from work (I live 3 blocks from work haha) and I had the package, so I went to the garage and threw the sandwhich plate on. I still need a head gasket so I can put the rest together.

Okay I got the sandwhich plate permatex'ed on there nice and snug, and the oil feed line in place (I didn't use any teflon). I'm putting the pieces into the head, but for some reason this fitting does NOT want to go in all the way. I can't tighten it anymore I feel like I'm going to strip it or snap it off. Is this in far enough? (No teflon here either).

I've got to get a tap driver to tap the head, but there's no hurry there.

Here's what I've got so far with the build.

If that fitting is in all the way and you're sure you didn't cross thread it, chances are it's tapered, which should seal but I'd still use teflon tape on it anyways lol!

Should I use teflon at that fitting and at the steel braid line ends?

No, you should not on the ends of the braided line. Those are flared fittings. The flare is what seals it up. Just like a brake line, ya dig? And you wouldn't want to go overboard with the rtv and accidentally plug the line up.

like i said just a dab, on the male end only and not too close to the opening. im **** about leakage (lmao). if my car makes the tiniest drop i will search until i find it. but crvtectim is right they are flared to seal.

Well I got the water pump, new timing tensioner, and timing pulley put on. Missing one woodruff key though so I can't get the crank pulley put on yet. Question: Are the crank and timing woodruff keys the same length?

I think that I am going to leave it there, in the event that I someday want to use it.

Water pipe is put back on, looks nice IMO, I didn't want to go black, and I didn't want it to math the block color. I think it's a good medium. After I put that on, I went ahead and tapped the GSR head for the plug. I hope I got all the metal shavings out, I'm sure there's still some in there somewhere.. how do you recommend getting that stuff out?

Been a while since I've updated this, I got my throttle body in the mail today, and RC Autoworks had my headgasket and intake manifold gasket for me today too. Put the head on the car, but for some reason ONE nut from the ARP kit is stripped? I torqued each and every nut down except for the 9th (in sequence) one. I went to put the socket on and it just hops and wont spin. I've got no idea why. Any thoughts on this?
