LS Vtec turbo rebuild! Lots of pics -*Now parting out/selling*

Ouch, thats why I have two used pumps that should be fine sitting in the corner, and forked out the cash for a new oem obd2 pump.
Running a car with a used heart is like throwing tge engine together without checking any bearing clearances

Was this a rebuild? Or was the motor stock? I can't remember
There's no reason you should lose oil pressure if you left the bottom end untouched.
Sadly if you already have low oil pressure at 4000 rpm I'm afraid the damage is done.

Bottom end was rebuilt by a reputable machine shop, I put roughly 1000-1500 miles on it? No problems. When I drove the car in the lowest the oil pressure was at idle was 12-20psi. My guess is something is clogging the oil pickup.

if pressure dropped to 5psi regardless of engine speed you've damaged the motor.... period

Just went in and checked it out, car is idling at 40psi cold and once it's warmed up it drops to around 12psi. I'm starting to think it's the type of oil I used. I'm still going to get the car home and replace the oil pump and check it over. No knocking or noises, it's partially tuned and now running on E85. Car made 220whp at 6k and then vtec dropped off on 7psi. He says once I get the oil problem fixed he's expecting to make mid to upper 400.
Thursday I'm picking the car up and taking it home.

Sorry it's been a while, got pretty frustrated and actually ended up moving into a new house. Today I tried the other oil restrictor I had laying around to see if it changed the oil pressure problem. Didn't really do anything. I'm still baffled as to what could have caused such a drop in pressure after simply installing roughly 3 feet of -3 oil line and an oil return. There was literally NO oil problem when the turbo stuff was off.

It is more than likely time to check bearings, oil pump, pick up, etc.

slacker, i'm a huge honda buff. i just joined here figured i would give some insight. i wouldn't use anything but oem parts for a honda, except aftermarket rods, pitons, etc. i have many friends running the oem crank with high hp levels, as it is a forged piece. i recommend injector dynamics for injectors, tial for wg and bov all day. intercooler (once you go higher hp), i would go with a treadstone performance one. don't use rtv on any rubber gaskets, they will leak. i learned that trick from my grandfather (he's been working on airplanes and cars for 55 years). the top hole above the throttle body is for evap can, as is the other one behind the intake manifold. not needed if deleted. but that hose behind the intake manifold i would use for the BOV and t into it for the boost gauge. align honing is a must for arp main studs, otherwise you can spin bearings, and of course if you boost, you do not want to turn a crank (turning means to have them polish it down and use over sized bearings). i'm not critiquing your build one bit but, it's awesome how far it's come in the last two years, i've read all of the thread. hey if you ever have any questions, please e-mail me. i don't know everything, but i have picked the brains of many many professional racers and builders so i do know a lot. nice build! i'm glad to see people still do some things on their own!

also, be careful with that manifold where the wg hangs on like that because mine has dropped off a few too many time before myself lol. i did use a washer that had a grippy feel to it, not a lock washer though, and the new one never came off. as for the manifold, i would replace it with a cheap blox cast iron one, they will not crack like those steel ones will, they always crack in the middle part because of over welding and burning too much of the metal. anyhow, yeah like i said email me if you have ANY questions at all!

Its been like 8 months but I just read through the build. It was nice seeing everything come together. Did you ever figure out the oil issue?

I ended up moving right after this happened, car is sitting int he garage currently. Hasn't been touched since this all happened. I constantly teeter on the thought of selling or fixing it lol. I don't have the disposable income I had when building this car. I really want to fix it, but part of me says I don't need a race car I need the money lol.

Everybody needs a race car slacker... or at least something that makes them smile when it works right. The obstacles that we must overcome make it that much sweeter. Giving up is easy... see it through and smile again !!!

Back in the day my dad used to have a 10sec civic that he dumped a lot of money into. Him and my uncle always talk about "I can't believe we spent all that money just to go fast".. it hits me every time I purchase another part or even think about putting in another dollar. But once you fall in love with speed you don't go back. My dad has since owned s2000's, an e46 m3, and has just recently purchased a Dodge Viper... as much as how unimportant it may feel at times everyone is on this forum for a reason. We all need a racecar, it's the little things that count. Just take care of your bills first, the racecar can always wait. I'm glad you still have the car.. and I hope you get the motivation to bring this thing back one day, even if it takes years! 👍🏻
