Default ls/vtec gasket fitment question

i have a ls/vtec motor im slapping together and i have a ls head gasket. im wondering about the fitment. it fits ok on the block but when i line it up to the b16 head, it doesnt seem like it matches with all the holes. is this ok or do i need to take it to the machine shop? sorry if this seems like a dumb question.

Yes it works, there are probably over 1 million LS/VTEC set ups using a stock LS headgasket

Now Cometic makes a gasket specifically for an LS/VTEC which they opened up the dowel pin holes more and some other **** they state lines up better yadda yadda

Instead of modifying the dowel pin holes just get some LS/VTEC dowel pins, I have some in stock from Golden Eagle. $20 shipped man They are stepped dowels fat on one end and skinnyon the other, you can run them on the exhaust or intake side really but need to turn them over depending on what side you use.

I used the B16 gasket on all the LS/vtecs I've built until my most recent one. The one I just did I used a Cometic LS gasket. Everything lined up fine, all I had to do was open up two holes in order to use the Golden Eagle ls/vtec dowel pins.

The LS/vtec dowels are designed to be used in the B16 dowel location, so a B16 gasket will sit over the pins, but if you use an LS gasket with the pins the holes where the dowels go will be too small, and they need opened up.

If the mismatch your referring to, is the slight mismatch to the large oil drain galleys, then that's not an issue...headgaskets don't match identically to all the galleys ever...but they match enough to seal obviously.

you have to take out 2 of thee 4 little brass grommets that hold the 3 layers together. i think its the ones on the exhaust side but i could be mistaken

ill post some pics on some progress. i gotta get my camera out to take some so bare with me. sorry for not posting in the first post. i will re-edit asap.

i already have a stock ls gasket... which is y i didnt go with a cometic. besides, doesnt the cometic drop the compression a little? im actually gonna run a high compression build on this one, and maybe boost it to see what it can do.

after completing this ls/vtec setup, i will be moving my attention towards the b18c build for low comp, goals in the vicinity of 400hp.. nothing to crazy. ill keep it posted tho. thanks for the helpful replies
