ls turbo or ls/vtec turbo?
That's my question.
I had planned an ls/vtec turbo, but now my friend has an ls head he'll give me for free. The block already has 9:1 pistons and eagle rods. The whole motor will be in a 89 hatchback.
Goal is 11's. It'll be running an ems, and I'm using a straight T04E (.70a/r and .58a/r). Fuel system and everything is done up, only question is to go with vtec or not? Is an ls head going to hold me back THAT much?
I'd rather go with no vtec just because it'll be less to trouble shoot/tune down the road.
Any info or anyone who has either setup would be great, thanks.

I've searched and I'll I've really found are people asking what they can run boost wise, and people using like bolt-on turbo kits.
My set-up is kind of far from a bolt-on kit....
maybe I missed a post?

Re: ls turbo or ls/vtec turbo? (DSF)
Honestly, I'd really like to do it without vtec.
less to worry about, less things that could go wrong, etc...
But if it's going to hurt the motor a lot i'd rather not get the motor in then have to do the whole ls/vtec with it in the car ya know?

I was in your exact situation. I chose the vtec head. Stock for stock you flow better and can rev higher more safely. The vtec head is easy. The only thing you'll need the machine shop to do is drill the dowel holes and deck it (which you should have checked anyway). You can do the plug and oil lines yourself. It's not nearly as much headache as people make it out to be.

Re: ls turbo or ls/vtec turbo? (bruthaboost)
a VTEC head flows better than a non vtec head, thats the only reason why i would use it and if you are boosting 15lbs or more vtec could more hinder you than help you. I cant imagine you would even feel vtec in compared to when that turbo spools up
