Default ls tranny on boosted b16...is it really that bad

i am steadily saving up money for my turbo setup on my b16 block and i was wondering if anyone is running that tranny setup on a boosted b16 or b18. I am on a little bit of a budget and i want to secure a transmission for the engine build up now.
Most likely i won't be done until probably next year but i don't want to be searching for the next six months after everything is done for a decently good b18c or b16 tranny.

Should i wait, or is the acceleration difference that great

btw the block is going to be sleeved w/84mm bore and ITS turbo or full race setup. (Big maybe on that)

alot of people run that tranny combo for the longer gears. it sucks for an n/a application, but not for boost

I would rather have a B16 tranny, but then again I would rather have a boosted overbored b16, than a car in the garage waiting for a tranny.

Good gravy, why do you even post this here?

A 6500, 7000 RPM LS motor has nothing in common with a B16 that will make power to 9K without issue.

B16 motor + LS trans sucks, period. I had the displeasure of driving around on that combo for a few months. With an SC61 you fell down to 2-3 pounds of boost on the 1-2 shift, and a stutter down to 7-8 on the 2-3 shift. I would rather wait and get the B16 tranny and do it right the first time than get an LS trans, get it in your car, realize how much it sucks, then ahve to pull the motor and find a B16 trans anyways.

I wasnt aware you had to pull the motor to remove the tranny

And there is nothing wrong with an LS tranny. Sure you will be .2-.4 seconds quicker in the quarter, but if its a daily driver, Id rather have an LS. Plus with the 500 whp Ill be putting down, Im not too worried about some honda or acura overtaking me b/c he has a b16 or gsr tranny. Mainly b/c there arent exactly alot of hondas pushing more than 350.

And if you really want the best of both worlds, I would go with an LS tranny with a GSR Final Drive. You will have the same 1st and 2nd as the gsr and a tad longer gears for 3rd-5th for highway/city driving.

Haha, the ultimate 'lag' combo. Ive also been on a B16/SC61/Ls trans. If your shifting at around 8000-8300 there is a conciderable lag in acceleration on the 2-3 shift. For me, the 1-2 didnt seem to bad.
After I stepped up to some better valve springs, I was pleased to find that by revving 2nd out to 8800-9000 (ITR cams), the momentary lag in acceleration was completely gone.
Overall though, LS trans just isnt for me. Kinda funny when you can get into freeway races where the other guy makes 3 gear changes while you complete the whole run in 3rd

I do agree though, for a daily freeway driver, its nice to be able to cruise quietly at low revs.

You don't need to, but my point was I would rather install the right parts from the begining than do something as labour intensive as a tranny swap for no good reason.

And yes, there is everything wrong with an LS tranny. On a tiny B16 there is nothing right about it. Shifting 1-2 I fell completely out of boost. It would bog down and took a moment for it to catch back into the swing of boost. Highway driving with a B16 trans is fine, I don't know what you're talking about. Sits at barely over 3000 cruising on the highway, and it's still gearing limited to like 160+ MPH. Going from the LS to the B16 tranny made my car infinitely more fun to drive. An LS trans on a gutless B16 is a bit different from an LS trans on a MUCH more torquey LS/VTEC, although I still wouldn't run an LS trans on that either.

I agree on a b16 engine it may not be the best, but Im pretty sure he said a b16 OR b18, Ill give you time to scroll up and look

And 3k on a b16 at highway speeds? LOL I really hope you arent in the fast lane umm ever... I have an LS tranny on my car, I have absolutely no complaints. I drive my car every day and like I said Im not too worried about some boi ricer trying to keep up. Cause even with my "worthless" LS tranny they still get walked.

Then again I will be revving to around 9k, soooo maybe Ill want something that doesnt hit 120 in 3rd gear lol

Two seperate entities, he has a B16, he's wondering if anyone has it on a B16 or a B18. He's underestimating the torquelessness of the B16 I don't drive in the fast lane, I drive 65 99% of the time because I can't afford tickets.
