Default LS/B20 rod question & other B series Engines

Just curious, are the guys who are building up the blocks in LS & B20 motors using a shorter rod and taller piston when building their motors?

Also, I assume with a larger stroke (larger crank?) the rod is longer. But, does anyone know the rod lengths for the B series motors.

B16A2, B16B, B18A1, B18C1, B18C5, B20B, B20Z

5.290" stock dimension fitment for Honda B16 engines (except JDM
5.394" stock dimension fitment for Honda D16 engines and ZC
5.394" stock dimension fitment for Honda B18A/B, and B20B/Z engines
5.430" stock dimension fitment for Honda B18C engines (including TypeR)
5.630" stock dimension fitment for Honda H22 engines

on the b20 block you cna use long rod 5.531 with custom piston like endyn unit. works great alot of the all motor guys use that setup

How do I convert inches into mm?

Im trying to understand the rod stroke ratio of these engines. Namely why the rod/stroke ratio of the B18A1/B1 & B20B/Z motors are said to have a bad rod/stroke ratio, but the B16A/A2 & B18C1/C5 are said to have a good one. Thanx for the info b18bturbo.

Do you know the stroke on these motors as well?

**** rod stroke ratio thats bunch of hype bull ****. just build it and it will run. its over rated.

Everyone says GSR have bad rod stroke ratio look at the 1000 plus hp people are putting down its way overrated.

stroke is 87mm gsr 89mm B18a/b20z 95mm b20a

Well why is it that the B16 and B18 breathe better at high Rs and Rev higher than the B18A/B and B20B/Z engines? Isnt that direct correlation to rod/stroke ratio?

the rod stroke ratio does help dont get me wrong. but its over rated. If you want to build a b18/b20 i would destroke it with GSR crank and run it that way so in other words you have GSR block. only difference no girdle which you can add anyways so not a big deal

The gsr and b16a make more pwr have better heads and better cams to make the pwr. the LS motor and b20 were made to move heavy cars lot of torque good street driving. it wasnt designed to be all out ***** racing engine

I totally agree with the GSR crank thing. So it would be better to just replace the crank? Would you use the GSR rod length? Cause I'm sure the B18A/B rod length would work being shorter. I agree that the rod/stroke ratio change is minimal, I'm just trying to get some knoledge on the subject.

I would use the gsr rod as well just my opinion gsr rod as well if you use the ls rod you would need to grind it down to fith the crank journal
