Default lowering boost / internal wastegate T25...

i had a thought.. in efforts to be the cheapest son of a bitch ever.. hahaha, and lower boost on my DSM T25.. i thought up a plan...

the actuator can.. is basicly a diaphram pusing against a spring that moves the arm.. so, if you coudl get into that can to change spring pressure, you could theordicly change wastegate psi..

now.. my quetsion.. im going to attempt this.. but where would be a safe place to cut? im thinking along the red line, if not closer to the base/arm side of the actuator. and since its below the diaphram, i think i'll tack weld it 4 or 5 times. i don't think it needs to be air tight since they'res already a breather valve as you can see.. what do you guys think? i think i might cut 1/3 of the spring off.. i can always use a MBC...

isn't the waste gate arm threaded where it mounts to the internal flapper? You can just shorten the arm and reduce your boost. Or extend it for the opposite. Stock turbo cars, (saab, volvo, vw) use this to adjust what they call base boost.

no its not threaded.. and ive spoken to a few people.. extend the arm with threading it, or bending the arm straighter making it longer, and opening sooner.. but this still doesnt' solve spring tension.

if you reduced spring tension, the WG would open gradually correctly. would be 8psi opeining earlier and theirfor opeing a boost gap of say 6psi?

per say.. the actuator spring pressure is 10lbs. this meaning 8psi. thats 20 %. if i take 1/3 of spring away.. that would be 66% of 10. meaning 6.5lbs spring pressure. thats something like 4psi boost. make sence?

the answer im looking for, is where on the can could i cut, and make my modification? i want to do it the right way.. and reducing spring tension is the only right way. where can i cut to stay away from the diaphram? anyone know?

let me give the run down of the boost #'s again..

say you have a 10lb actuator spring. which at wastegate holds 8 psi. thats 80%
if you took away 1/3 of the spring reducing spring tension down to 6lb spring rate and a boost control of 4.8 lbs of boost.

either way.. real weight spring tension wouldnt' matter, as long as you judge ratios of spring and wastegate boost pressure and adjust accordingly.

i think this all makes sence.

ok.. regaurdless on springs and what im trying to accomplish.. maybe after i finish i'll make a DIY post.. but what im going to try is open the actuator can, and lower the wastegate spring. like changing the tial wastegate diaphrams to play with boost.

where on the can can i cut, to open and cut the spring and weld it back up, so it won't affect the moving motion of the diaphram?

I have seen poeple go to a hardware store and cut the actuator arm and thread a spring in the middle and then tighten loosen the spring to adjust boost levels. Hope this makes since, b/c I wasn't very clear. Although it is going to require you to spend a few bucks, but it has worked in the past.

Good luck
