low oil pressure after turbo install.
I'm stumped First of all i'll tell you about the car so i can rule out some things. bearings are less then 5k and within specs, itr pump in last year. Cam caps have o ring in. vtec solinoid was working fine. This is a built ls vtec that has been running for a year now with no problems. Oil pan and pickup are fine.i have the external vtec oil line teed off from oil sending unit. which has been working fine for a year now. So i throw in a small turbo in w/ neptune management in. I have one of those ge sandwich adapters for the turbo oil feed line, but the line seems to be one size thicker than the one on my other car. So now everytime i start it, it runs rough with the oil light on for about 10 secends then smooths out and the light dissapears. I now have no vtec at all, and while im driving it seems ok, but as soon as i release the gas pedal it drops to idle like it should, the oil light flickers on once or twice now at about 1100-1000 rpms. What else could it be, is the turbo oil feedline too big? How much pressure am i loosing by running two different oillines (vtec, turbo oil feed), unless its somethin else?

Put it this way, the fitting to the turbo might be the same as normal applications, but when comparing the stainless line to mine on my hatch, it is like twice as thick.
since my house is getting built and i have no garage to fix it, im having Joe Housley from addit to your toys to fix the damn problem. I'll let everyone know what the problem was for personal info.

fyi....my oil went a little low a couple times.......I had the oil light pop up on me once or twice and once the engine even cut off.
Fortunately, I decided to do a major build up then, cause when I tore down the motor, the oil pump was on its last leg. the gear was all chewed up and almost became one with housing. IT was fuked!!

Does it cause your idle to drop to 500 and fluctuate to 800. mine does this about 60 % of the time. Damn guys i feel like a newbie again , I hate this.

It would stand to reason that if your not getting correct oil pressure then maybe the bearings are building friction against the journals thus making it harder for the car to idle..

Just an idea. . .You said that it happened only after the turbo install right?
Welll. . .Ryan aka b18flip had a similar problem after he installed his turbo. .
When he drilled the hole for the return bung in the oil pan he cleaned out all the shavings. . but missed ONE tiny shaving. The piece of metal got sucked up through the oil pickup and into his oil pump. It then wedged it'self in between the release valve and the oil pump housing. . causing the valve not to close all the way and not get full oil pressure. . .
Either way, pull off the oil pump and tear it apart. . .check the clearances and check the release valve. . .
Hope this helps.....

Maybe the oil feed line is soo huge it consumes soo much oil that there isnt enough for VETC! j/p for the record.

Re: low oil pressure after turbo install. (slow poke)
Thanks guys for all the replies
We found the problem, I wish I could say it was good but it wasnt
Pulled the oil pan, the pump was ok but number 4 bearing... well lets just say i could of shaved my face with it. But the good news was is that the crank felt and was miked and it is ok. Just needs to be micropolished. but the damn motor needs to be pulled, put all new bearings in. The rod was a little tweaked and these are fairly new. (eagle rods) Which might have caused the whole thing since the rod and bearings were miked and bored and were within specs. So a little word of advice would be, if you get eagle rods, still get them checked. The oil line was changed before the drop of the pan and there was only a 2 psi jump under load so that wasn't the problem.
Thank god i caught it in time, saved the crank and the main journals and main bearings were fine too. Will have it done and ready next weekend.
