Default Looking for opinions/advice on my engine build up

Basicaly this will be gsr block with itr stock head, no more than 300whp (i'd rather pay more money for a better piston/rod combination) - i want something trouble free and reliable..

my concern is about one cylinder, there seem to be build up near top and couple scratches (i placed blue circles around these areas).. so does it look o.k.? - don't want to re-sleeve this block

i don't want to overbore.. just keep it as close to stock diameter, and i'd like to keep 10:1 - 10:6 compression - so what are my choices?

You should send your block and head to a machinist to check the roundness of the block and check for cracks. If everything looks good, then you can choose 0.25mm oversize forged pistons like JE if you want to stay (almost) stock bore size. JE has a lot of choices of pistons available (bore diameter, compression, etc.) so you can choose what makes sense to you.

You should also deck the block and mill the head before you put everything back together. This ensures levelness of the block and head for good headgasket sealing, and it also cleans all the crap buildup on the block and head.

well.. i don't want to run cam gears - so i don't want to mill anything, unless i have to.. will these spots cause problems with sealing?

um...why wouldn't you want to run cam gears?

lots of power can be found in their tuning with boost.

and you're going to have to bore it out...and possibly deck it. sorry, it's life

because i'm not after every whp.. and i won't have problems making whp i want without them..

as far as bore.. i can live with that.. but.. how great are the chance of milling the block (% wise?), maybe i'll add more layers to headgasket..

well, cam gears are a good thing to have

you can tune your power band...that's what they are there for.

you can make your car more streetable with them....

and when you get your block decked...you'll have to compensate..and it'd be better to do that with cam gears. another headgasket will just lower your compression

well.. headgasket wouldn't be to lower compression.. just to compensate for heigh loss due to milling.. i agree that cam gears can increase whp.. but in my eyes it will be another aftermarket item to worry about.. so far stock parts do the best job.. i've had fitment or maintanance issues with almost every aftermarket piece out there.. i don't want to test my car and have something fail due to cam gear timing. - so i'll just loose 2-3whp here and there.. it goes inside the engine and i can't keep an eye on it as i shift at 9000rpm.

i'm fully aware that you were wanting the gasket to get back the tension for your timing belt...and milling knocks your timing back some...

but, if you got something like TJ's cam gears you wouldn't have ANYTHING at ALL to worry about

i'll take that into consideration..

i'd like to hear more opinions from people on what products to go with.. and how much re-conditioning i may have to do as far as milling or overbore..

thanks everyone for help
