looking to add an oil cooler, need i have a ramhorn
im looking to add an oil cooler to my vehicle because i live in hot texas, problem is i have a ramhorn manifold. i have room between my half core radiator (not a good idea to put it there i think) or i can manage to place it underneath my wastegate. the size the of cooler doesnt matter to me, anything is better than nothing. i cant mount it on my bumper support because my intercooler is mounted there. here is a some what good pic of the area of where i would put it

You need to run a 19 row with -10 lines for proper oil flow, also run a motul thermostat cooler adapter and dont relocate the filter. you can fit it up there OR fork up a couple extra bucks for one with its own fan then wont matter where its mounted so long as has ome air gap for the fan to move air
I would get that Solenoid to a cooler location personally as well

my solenoid looks "cool" where its at, lol. ive been told that before but i havent had any issues with hitting target boost pressure. i have the mocal adapter with thermostat sitting on my coffee table. as for the fan on the cooler, would i plug the fan up to the a/c fan connector so itll turn on with the radiator fan? my hondata doesnt see oil temp

I agree with it all except for the fan. you want the cooler in a location that's at the same level or lower than where the Mocal Sandwich plate is, otherwise, you'll have cavitation effect. It should also have its own independent air source, so where the OEM foglights would normally go would be best. DO NOT USE ANY LINES SMALLER THAN -8AN, as it can stress the oil pump itself. So really -10AN is optimal.
So putting it behind the intercooler is a bad idea. independent air source.

i've never heard of a cavitation issue with an oil cooler, they are on all our aircraft and are subject to all kinds of bank angles etc, it's a hydraulic system, it's full of oil, if you run a thermostat like I'm running, I think it's a derale, the cooler is always full of oil, but the bypass between the halves of the thermostat opens under about 190, this lets the oil take the easier path back to the the engine, yet prevents air in the cooler, Ive seen plenty of sandrail guys run a fan cooler way up on a high roll bar to protect it from debris, and it works fine, you cant get the cooler much higher, I'm running a kintex cooler, which is an aircraft cooler, with a high volume bosch squirrel cage blower under the bumper corner, and a derale thermostatic switch in the line feeding the cooler, if the thermostat lets oil in, the switch heats up and the fan turns on. I'm also running a remote filter which allowed me to run a larger filter for more oil volume in the system

Shodan
I don't have much of a choice as for locations. Putting it behind the intercooler mainly on the rad support is my best option. I've seen a few people do it like this, I think turbo-ls has his ran behind the intercooler.

Re: looking to add an oil cooler, need i have a ramhorn
I just removed my Mfactory oil cooler today, I had it behind the inercooler next to half core. The change was soo small it was pointless for me to keep it, Untill I get a fan for it it will sit on the shelf. It came with pre made lines so I couldn't pick a good location for it.

It doesn't have to be behind anything
You can put it in front of the intercooler or behind the bumper cover on either side, get on eBay and buy a duct and hook a fan to it

Wouldn't the fan hit the wastegate and or the turbo? I'm beginning to think this isn't going to work well

most oil cooler fan combo are smaller units that come with a spal fan that i have seen on ebay. im tempted to get one of these for space and i assume they would be as efficient because of the fan being apart of the unit

No a ducted fan like nascar uses for brakes and some heat resistant ducting, again used for brakes
Its how I'm putting my oil coolers behind my bumper

Put it behind the bumper cover, buy a cheap duct from a nascar surplus buyer, a ducted fan and some brake ducting. That will let you place it wherever you like. Even inside the car.
My two fluid coolers are going behind the bumper cover on each side out of the engine bay and I'll be supplying them air through custom made ducted fans like nascar uses. This means I get consistent airflow to my coolers even sitting at a red light
We use the same fans on the brake cooling duct system and they move so much air we had one fly out of it's retention collar on the test bench. On the car in the paddock the fans will pick up tire rubber and small rocks lol.
