Leaking Tial Wastegate question
What does it mean if I put air to the top of the wastegate and I hear it coming out the side port of the wastegate?

That is what I was afraid of. How or why does this happen?

I'm not sure exactly why or how it happens, but it does. I have had a FPR where the diaphragm got a small hole in it. And know of several people with the wastegate diaphragm problems. I don't know if it was from debris, heat, age, or what? A lot of times it's from taking it apart and not putting it back together properly, at least in some of the ones I've seen.

It happens on Tial gates sometimes. The 4 little set screws will work themselves loose and the top cup assembly 'wobbles' on the valve. The side to side movement is enough to make the diaphragm contact the bottom banjo bolt where it protrudes into the housing. If you trim a bit off the banjo bolt it prevents that possibility.

Re: Leaking Tial Wastegate question (underpressure02)
-pinched diaphragm
-diaphragm is not sitting correct on the bottom half
-someone took it apart and didn't use locktite on the set screws that hold the vlave in place
- you hooked it up to a vacuum source (which is says not to per instructions and i have said numerous times on here) and the vacuum sucked in the diaphragm and slit it
- the washers were not installed correctly (or at all) and the air fitting was screwed in too far hitting/damaging the diaphragm
if it's an older wastegate the diaphragm might have broken free of the spring cup

Answers are in Bold. So the real question is how do can I fix this?

We will see this weekend. Seems to be making boost a little faster on the two step.
