Laskey Racing Benson Sleeved Block?
Ive been in the market to sleeve my ls block, and came across Laskey Racing in Anaheim.
$1100 for a 4cyl, which includes final bore, hone, and resurface/deck!!
Everyone other place wanted 1300$ and UP, PLUS machine costs..
Few questions!
Your experience with Laskey Racing?
Are Copper ORINGS needed? (I have no power goal as of right now, but I'm thinking ~500whp with this 60 trim, but I may upgrade, unsure yet.
Anyone in the LA area with a B series block that they are willing to sell/donate to me (cracked sleeve or not) I need a core and I rather not ship a bare block from SEA to LA.
Thanks!

thanks for the replies!!
good thing to know o rings are just a rip off
so turbo hatch... how far are you from them? How much do you want for that block of yours delivered to them for me?
Question for you guys.. I plan to run 81mm pistons just for the sheer fact that if I damage the cylinder walls I can bore them out. Is this a normal thing to do? I know running 84mm will put me to 2.0L, but I rather have the option of boring my sleeves out a few times instead of once or twice. (I AM going to run my NPR pistons for my build too) INB4 CRINGE (unless of course I can find a cheap set of forged 81mm pistons)

Yes staying at 81mm leaves more meat on the bone so to speak but how many times do you plan on blowing this thing up?

Re: Benson Sleeved Block $1100!!
Mike at laskey racing been around forever, and have taken great care of me and my friends. Not only does the life time warranty of the block applies too you, he will also take care of the next owner of the block (if u do decide to sell the car/block).

Re: Benson Sleeved Block $1100!!
Seems kind of odd to have a bullet proof block but then skimp on pistons. I dont know anything about npr pistons so maybe im mistaken but ive heard of alot of piston types and those dont ring a bell. Weisco has some nice affordable pistons that many people have had great success with, if im not mistaken they are one of the cheaper off the shelf options. Its worth looking into in my opinion. Also you would be suprised how many BNIB pistons get sold in the market place that just never made there way to an engine...at much below retail $$

I compare NPR to stock pistons. Ive seen lsvtec set ups and gsrs with stock blocks hit 500-600whp (with stock pistons) so I intend to do the same. I will be running water meth too, so who knows if this will help with cast pistons, regardless, my brain is telling me to run forged pistons, like you said, kind of pointless running cast pistons with bulletproof sleeves.

i'm so happy to hear good things about laskey!
Lifetime warranty applies to the sleeves themselves?

I would think twice about using Benson for anything other than a lonely conversation phone call. That guy sure loves to talk on the phone.

Laskey racing will treat you right, Mikes father "Earl" taught him the ins and outs of the business and was a icon for the industry 10-15 years back and a great guy...he had a article about engine break in that changed my thinking!1
I have had several motors through his shop from mild to wild you wont be disapointed!!

Re: Benson Sleeved Block $1100!!
Since when? I just had my LAST one done by Benson a few months ago. Laskey is one side of things and only using Dan Benson is another. That guy is a joke and a half. Typical dipshit that thinks he knows better than you even if he has "never heard" of somebody doing the type of setup they are requesting. So one pays for machining to get something back that isn't right. Let alone being BS'd over the phone on ship times and being told services are required with never having seen the block.
I would think twice about using Benson for anything other than a lonely conversation phone call. That guy sure loves to talk on the phone.

op, dont start at 81mm go right up to like 83. without o ring i think you can go into the 85mm range safely on boost.
digital sol - .0035 ptw on a cp piston and 500+ hp......eh...gonna be a close one

Put a block guard on a Benson block and things are great.

Re: Laskey Racing Benson Sleeved Block?
I have a few bare LS blocks with main caps but I'm in GA
however, shipping just the block (with no crank) isn't too bad, UPS and FedEx shipped one pretty cheap for me

Re: Laskey Racing Benson Sleeved Block?
I have a very low mileage (nearly new) B18A1 block that has damage to the crank snout and some pitting in a sleeve due to some water sitting in it. Will sell for $200. Located in the LA area.

Re: Benson Sleeved Block $1100!!
You should probably reread what I said. Laskey is great - Benson is the issue. Also, after reading all of Muckman's build thread you will find he had a lot of sinking issues. I will be building a Benson block myself but it is a joke that I had to get the block checked out/fixed and the block came back with some sort of corrosion on it. I was greatly unimpressed and should have went Golden Eagle or Darton like I had intended. That's what I get for trying something new I guess... hahaha.

Re: Laskey Racing Benson Sleeved Block?
I have a cracked sleeve block already.. I am just assuming shipping a bare block from seattle to LA would be ~100$. I offered turbohatch 40$ to drop his damaged block off but he declined, he said he was close so I would figure $40 would be a sweet deal for a paperweight.
