Default kinda OT: pics and setup on my awd dsm (56k..i doubt it)

ive been working on this car on/off for the past year and its finally come together..right now im breaking in the clutch...after that its off to the track. its basically a track car with a little street driving to cruise ins and such..as you can see from the pics, its fully gutted..no a/c, manual steering, no interior, no bumpers, ect. ect.

basic setup is:
2.3 stroked motor..o-ringed, metal HG
ross pistons/crower rods
agp/sfp turbo kit with t3/60-1, sfp manifold, tial 40mm
full 3" turboback ATR exhaust
rps clutch
IRC fmic kit
greddy type r bov
aeromotive FPR with partial -6 return and -8 feed
semi-built tranny
tre center diff. spool
koni yellows/sprint springs
home depot catch can setup ($8 TOTAL)
hks vpc
apexi afc2
greddy 60mm boost, egt, oil pressue
hallman MBC with cockpit control
FJO wideband with datalogging

engine bay is dirty..had a pinhole coolent leak that sprayed everywhere and im to lazy right now to clean it..damn manifold paint cracked as soon as i started the car..used the exact same paint on my friends civic and it held up perfect anyways heres the pics..questions are welcome

It's odd to see the engine bay of a DSM not covered in OIL...

Sweet setup...

cool ****

you hoping for low 12 or 11's?

you might need a cage to run at the track

im gonna run it at 15psi first, then slowely build up to 25+ once i get the hang of the car...so im hoping for 12's at first then eventually 11's, and i can see 10's POSSIBLE once its fully tuned at high boost if it doesnt break first (it is a dsm )

yeah i figure ill get kicked out of most decent tracks once i get it running good w/o a cage, but for now im broke so it'll have to wait....ive also had the thought of putting the setup in a galant vr4 for awhile so we'll see

the can itself is made from pvc pipe fitting things...they should have a big isle with different ones...i used 3"...its two pieces that slide together and each end is threaded and you use a 3" plug on the ends. next time i go by home depot ill get the part numbers..it took me awhile to find the right ones...the brass fittings and line i got from lowes..

when i get all the part #/descriptions ill do a little writeup on here

since when is $600 a few extra bucks? when the money runs out, it runs out...i spent the money i had in doing preventative stuff like new pumps, seals, ect. throughout the motor/tranny so i wouldnt have to worry about stupid stuff...ill get one once i get more money, only takes a hour to rip the stock mani off....kinda interested how far the stock manifold will go too

Looks good Andy, what RPS clutch did you go with? I went with RPS also for my new setup, the one in my previous setup lasted 3 extremely brutal seasons at the track and on the street

Yea, but that oil keeps the bottom of the DSm from rusting out...at least here in the midwest.

Nice first gen who built your tranny, Shep or TRE?
I'm putting together a similar first gen I found for almost nothing. I stuck to the 2.0L .020" over ross pistons, eagle rods, o-ringed, agp rs52 turbo, on a six bolt. These dang cars are heavy but the way they launch is very entertaining.

Have you taken any measures to prevent crank walk?

Yea, he bought a 1G. LOL!

Good luck on hitting some good times! Your first launch will be like WHOA! Hope you have a neck brace afterwards!

I thought the 92-93 1G's had a crankwalk problem too. Not that it matters much because it's a track car and he'll prolly never drive it enough to develop any crankwalk problems. That only happens from lots of clutch action.

heheh, I know what you mean. A good buddy of mine had a 1G, so he thought he was immune too. I helped him build that motor. 1500 miles after the build up (on a new block, with the requisite "crank walk cure" tricks) and the 2800 lb ACT clutch did the damage. You could push the crank in and out about 1/4". It's a shame too because there are definitely things about that motor that are very well designed.

Since then, I've had a hairly eyeball on all things Mitsubishi, and especially now with the latest EVO fiasco and the criminal inquiries. But even with all that, the lure of AWD still pulls at me.

about the crankwalk..the only ones commonly associated with it are 2G 7-bolts...although either 6 or 7 can do it..the 1g 7bolt isnt the same as the 2g,..but thats a whole diff. story anyways...

anyway thanks for the comments so far guys ill be sure to post whenever i finally get it to the track
