the .1 litre difference isn't going to make or break the car. What car is it in, btw? if it's a hatchy, leave it. my friends got a usdm d15b7 non vtec and it flies with just a greddy kit. unless the y8 is free, i wouldn't really waste my time... but then again, it's all up to you. Even if it's free, keep it as a backup and see what u can do with the jdm.

good luck~!

the d15b is not better than a Y8. But the Jdm d15b (vtec) is fine and can make good power

I got the D15B in my 1991 hatch,
I'm in the process of installing all the goodies from a greddy kit and some other... Believe me the d15b is one capable engine, it take several abuse from me over the past two year, I didn't drive it like a momy. on road I drive like a grandma, but I track it every chance I got and it still run strong as hell, no burning oil, compression is equal on all 4 cylinder.
I'll see if everything is fine when I pop the head off on it, but there should not be anyproblem with it, at least if there is some, there is no sign of it up to date.

IMO keep it, turbo it and have fun !

I would definetely swap the tranny, i went from a 5th gen S20 tranny to a crappy long geared HX (same as dx and cx i believe) and i couldn't stand it.

If you already have the motor i'd say swap it in too but at least swap the tranny out.

ive got a turbo jdm d15b aswel. Seems to be holding out fine. Been turbo'd for about 6 months now with a pretty dodgy tune, but Ive had no problems to speak of. I think its a pretty nice high reving engine - 130ps from a 1500cc engine is quite a feat, especially when it first came out and replaced the jdm zc.

I havnt had much experiance with the y8, but i say keep your engine. Its already in there, saves mucking around for not much gain, if any.

How does the motor run on low octane gas?, since they normally run there cars on 100 + octane in japan? im guessing since it was tuned it will be sweet?

If you havnt read this article - http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/ read it.

my jdm d15b vtec runs fine on 93 octane. I'd say keep it, no need in swapping out the engine, and if you are going to build the bottom end later on with sleeving, you can just go with a z6 bottom end then, since it's cheaper and better than the y8.

I've got a d15b7 (Great little motor) with a rev hard T3/T4, STR manifold completely built top and bottom. It's made over 450hp, 10.88@139.10mph on 24psi and 125 shot of juice!

I say keep the d15 and put the si tranny in..
