Default Just tuned, but my car feels worse than before it was boosted!!!

Ok here's the problem.... I just recently had my car tuned, it is a 2000 GSR with Drag turbo kit, Turbonetics t3/60-1, Apexi Power FC+FC commander, Port Flow head, dual valve springs ect ect ect.... the list goes on. I have basically everything except the bottom end built now.

The problem is that the car feels so gutless in the low RPM's , like up to 3500 rpm. Then when it starts making boost it will be a lot better. But even when I give it alot of gas in the lower rpm's it feels like it has less power than my car did when it was stock.

It is running pretty rich, that I do know. But the dyno sheet didn't say it was that rich. Could my spark plugs be really dirty and just not burning all the gas??? Or could there be more to it?

I am going in later this week or next to get it re-tuned by Intec Racing, so hopefully they can work the bugs out of it.

If anyone has any ideas on why this bitch is doing this right now let me know.

because my car is blowing alot of carbon out the exhaust and i saw the dyno sheet. it feels like it is getting flooded down in the low rpm's or maybe shitty ign. timing???

Ignition problems. Are you using the same plug gap you were when N/A? Reduce it down to the 0.028-0.030" range, and use plugs a step colder.

Do you have a pic of the dyno or a/f? Its probably just bad tuning. Obviously, probably just pulled a bunch of timing from everywhere across the board, which they should've just pulled timing from when boost started coming on. Just go get it retuned. Also retarding the timing too will create the same effect as flooding. Does it hesitate at WOT out of boost?

It kida does hesitate at wot out of boost but when it does get into boost it runs and pulls hard, but i had another tuner check out the timing map and he said it looked like the guy who tuned it just pulled alot of timing out of the bottom end to compensate for the boost. I really dont know too much about tuning though. I do believe the plugs are gapped a little more than they should be too. i am throwing in some new ones todays and hopefully that will help alittle.

also, what plugs will be the ones to get. i have asked this before and everyone gives me a different answer. I bought some platinum NGK PFR6Q 6458, i don't know if these are the correct ones, but the people at the store I got them at said they'll be good but I'd rather not put them in if there is something cheaper that will do the job as well.

It's probably just boost lag. Mine will feel the same too. When I went out street tuning and had to puch it WOT at low rpm's,... my car was soo dam dead! Def. slower than stock, but when boost comes, it'll pull soo hard and nice!!

Get us some turbo specs and we'll let you know if it sounds like lag. I'm betting it's the lag you're feeling~! Esp. with a 60-1 turbo

I have no doubt that i am feeling lag as well. however, it should not feel more gut less than stock gsr, should it? I mean i am at full boost by 4000 and until 3500 my car feels like it is dead.

also when i stop at light or push in the clutch, it will sometimes almost die and drop down to 350+/- rpm and jump back up. then sometimes it'll just die. I really think it is being flooded, but can it be just a shitty dirty plug and bad gap? maybe some ign timing issues? any help is very much appreciated.

thats kind of what i was thinking too, but it could be a number of things. I think the preffered plugs for boosted hondas are the ngk bkr7s, thats what i use anyway...

more info is needed...
dyno and a/f plot would be nice

But yeah, no timing is need to pull until you come out of vacuum, >0psi. I'd suggest getting another opinion from another tuner.

EMS and Tim Greaves!!

Also,... ditch the Platinum plugs... and get some brk7's(which is a colder than stock plug)... or if you wanna be expensive the NGK iridiums (get a step colder than stock) and good luck !

Unless a shitload of timing was pulled out in the lower boost levels i don't see how it could possibly feel worse than stock. Check your plug gap like they said.

look at the recent "550 mile blown turbo ls" thread...

didnt have any timing in it, and it got WAY too hot. so yes, it can hurt your motor.

uhh yeah, i read it already and no way is my **** that bad. I don't know off the top of my head how much it retarded but you can just tell it isn't right because the throttle response went from being crisp to absolute **** after it was tuned. I am planning to have it retuned very shortly.

Thanks again for the help.

hey i figured it out. the reason my car made such shitty power on that dyno session.... it made 230whp and 174ft/lbs torque @7psi. Which wouldn't be bad for a smaller turbo but this t3/60-1 should have made more power, and it is cuz my ignition timing is all fucked up and retarded.

Explain. So do you think its the tune? Or is it something like your distributor was clocked all the way retarded or something like that?
