just got my motor built
k guys i finally got it all together. I got Ls block bored .20 over, decked, crank polished, arias b16 9:1 pistons, eagle rods, and for my head its got a valve job. I had them rebuild it to new cuz all used vtec heads got wear on them. The machine shop told me that since I left the stock sleeves to NEVER exceed 12 psi. He said set it to 10 and if it spikes, dont let it go past 12. Now when i get on here im always hearing about 400whp on 17 psi stock sleeves. How dependable has than been for you guys?

You should have no problem pushing more then 12psi with your setup and a good tune. Although, with your engine builder talking like that then maybe he goofed and screwed up your engine and is trying to cover it up. You should be able to make a good 350HP out of your engine no problem.

i seriously doubt they goofed. They have been in business for like 40 years. They have good reputation in DFW Automtotive machine and supply. I think they mainly said that because they see stuff go wrong all the time and they just warning me but idunno, never pushed over 8 before

im so sick of people saying that. Yes it does most people can not communicate with head pressures and cfm so lets round about it and use psi. and as for your friend running 20 psi, how long has that lasted. I didnt dump 3 grand in this motor to crack a sleeve, but i didnt dump 3 grand to run 10 psi either. Id like to talk to some tuners about this stuff.

I have to agree with the ignorance of using boost pressure to gauge the longevity of the engine.
A statement such as "don't go over 12 Psig.." tells me that the builder has his head up his ***. If he had any real data, he would say "don't go over xxx whp properly tuned"

and to add on to the quote of crappy work so he said not to exceed 12 pounds, before they did any work on my car, they asked what I wanted to get out of the engine. i told them around 375 whp. they said that 260 -280 is the max. And that all of the people online will tell you against that, but their motors wont last that long. they may hit 400hp on a stock block for one run and then blow it up.

Re: (turbo_b16_ex)
that is a very ignorant statement,
Research the stock block thread, alot of the people state how long its been running, you will VERY impressed im sure with a statement like that.

dont get mad at the OP he is just reffering to what the mechanic/builder dude told him....
you can easily go over 400 with stock sleeves but most tuners recommend against it on pump gas.....

Re: (turbotime)
My motor is 18 months old now with stock sleeves and has made 380-440 whp for that entire time. I keep it around 370whp on pump gas, anything more gets c16.

I love mechanics that claim to know everything but really know absolutely nothing.
I see it all the time. I once had an exhaust shop that wouldn't weld me up a 3" exhaust because he told me that the lack of back pressure was going to "kill my power", eventhough I was turbo
I choose not to deal with those who like to tell me what I want instead of doing what I tell them that I want. I'm the one spending the damn money, if I want you to build it this way, than build it this way and don't give me any lip!

Sorry, I just get worked up about stuff like this. Sounds like you need to take your business elsewhere from now on.
