Just got back from the track....what do you think?
hey guys i just wanted to post this up and see what you guys think...these times seem horrible for my setup (even the traps)....
First Run- (tire pressure at 15lbs on bfg drag radials, run @ 12lbs of boost)
R/T - .211
60' - 2.351
330 - 6.180
1/8 - 9.185
MPH - 82.49
1000 - 11.762
1/4 - 13.914
MPH - 103.62
Second Run - (tire pressure at 35lbs on bfg drag radials, run @ 8lbs then switched to 12lbs once i hit 2nd gear)
R/T - .350
60' - 2.284
330 - 6.140
1/8 - 9.162
MPH - 82.25
1000 - 11.739
1/4 - 13.883
MPH - 105.01
Third Run - (tire pressure at 25lbs on bfg drag radials, run @ 12lbs of boost)
R/T - .236
60' - 2.247
330 - 5.959
1/8 - 8.959
MPH - 82.02
1000 - 11.534
1/4 - 13.680
MPH - 104.27
Alright heres the rundown, my current setup is in my sig w/ a few more extras, plus the JE 9:1 Pistons and Eagle H-beam rods. I havent gotten tuned for this current setup, im still tuned for stock internals, running at 12lbs of boost, thats what those runs were on...My main problem was bogging down off the line b/c i kept dumping the clutch, i dont build up boost till about 5k rpms....are these runs decent for what ive got? it seems like the main problem was that i havent been tuned for this setup, my tune is for the higher compression stock pistons, where as i ran w/ low compression pistons at only 12lbs of boost. Also it was mid-day 52 degree weather....Also any tips for launching a boosted fwd car would be appreciated

I have no idea how to respond to this without knowing how much power you are making. How much boost you run has nothing to do with 1/4 et. I'm guessing you are making about 240-250whp if you are running mid to high 13s...just a hunch.

Re: (Boondock Saint)
You defintely need to work on your launch, those 60ft times aren't very good. I would just go out and practice until you can get the launching down, that should help your 1/4 miles times a lot. I have ran the tire pressure in my drag radials as low as 12psi at the track without problems (I wouldn't go lower than that), so play with your tire pressure snd see what works best.

Re: (beerbongskickass)
yeah i dont think dumping it works, cuz it just bogs down since the bfgs actually hook when i dump it, and after i dump it the rpms will be down at like 3k and i dont build up boost till 5k so its a slug for those 2k rpms, thats whats killing my 60'. i figure ill set the launch control to 6k instead of 5,500rpms and slip it out fast, not dumping it. think that'll work better?

I usually launch in a way where after my tires quit slipping,im just entering VTEC or boost in your case...Its a very fine line between bogging and spinning your tires...Id try and launch a little higher like 4-45k and hold it there until the tires grab. Then lay into it and hopefully theyll keep sticking

Re: (PyroProblem)
well in my case, im getting TOO much traction, b/c im dumping it at 5,500rpms, and then when i dump it it'll bog down... so im thinkin ill take it to 6k on my launch control and then slip it out fast that way when the clutch is all the way out im closer to boost...

if ur going to dump the clutch ur best bet is launching with ur rpms in the 6000 range. instead of bogging u will come out of the hole spinning the tires or have wheel hop like a ****, which IMO is better then bogging off the line

Re: (B00STED Si)
Damn your setup is pretty much identical to mine. Same turbo, same compression. The only difference I could see is I have a 3" catback exhaust.
I also had difficulties hooking up but I didn't have drag radials, just regular POS kuhmo 711s. My best time was a 13.3 but my best trap was a 116mph. My best 60' was similar to yours. like a 2.2x or so. I was running 15psi spiking to 17psi though.
I think your traps are a tad low. At 12psi you should be around 260whp and trapping at least 108-109mph. Maybe you are lagging way too much between shifts.
Anyway, expect 30-35whp more when you tune for 15psi.
Good luck.

I think you should launch at a much higher rpm... Try to increase every launch by 500rpms until you get the 60' down.... A little spinning of the tires off the line is okay but bogging would really slow you down.

Re: (kleefton)
kleefton: yeah, i also have my car tuned very conservatively since its my daily driver, so its not making as much hp as it could, plus its still tuned for stock internals.
about the shifting - im practically powershifting thru the gears...ill see if i can load up the video of one of my runs on here and let you guys see it for yourself... thanks for all the help

Re: (B00STED Si)
IMO, I would say your 76 trim is too big.
I mean, you can tell theres lag, by the times compared to the 1/8th, as to the 1/4 trap. Its like your not even in boost till after the 1/8th. I dunno, it just seems odd to me.
It would be interesting to see the times/trap with a smaller turbo because there would be more power lower in the rpm range, therefore leaving the line better, and all the way to the end.
Just my .02
Nice times by the way

yeah thats what one of the guys i work with up at the shop was saying, hes the one that help me build the motor and hes been doing turbo work since he was 16. he was saying the 76 trim was too big as well as the a/r ratio (.63)

the 9.1 compression is quite a bit lower than stock compression... so with that alone you are probablly not making as much power as before, id say a new tune would really help more than anything... and if you have rods and pistons get a new tune running a lot more boost with that, with all supporting mods your sleeves are good for around 400whp more if your feeling a lil crazy... just my oppinion though...

ummm I run 13.6's @ 106 with my EG LS-T runing a ssautochrome header, junk yard saab .42 t3 turbo, PCV piping from turbo to eclipse intercooler to intake FMU and missing link... so umm id say you deffintally need to get it tuned. oh yeah my best time was 13.2 on BFG 205/50 at night on 10psi if that helps at all... id say your launch and turning is what you need.

just looking at your times better, your 1/8 mile time well pretty much sucks. get the hondata 3 step rev limit so u can do full throttle launches and possibly consider a smaller turbo

He does have the 3-step. Getting the car from 0-2nd gear is the biggest challenge. The car is good for mid-12's...he just needs it tuned for the newly built motor and a little more seat time.

you can definetly see the bog in the video...your launch is where the majority of your problem is
i love how your car all of a sudden lurches forward after your 60ft lol

Re: (Blue00vtecsi)
aahhh alright heres the lowdown, my driving doesnt suck THAT much like it seems from the runs. those runs were actually at 8.5lbs of boost which was my high boost setting then (i turned it down right after the motor build). I found it out today when i went in for tuning. at that boost setting, i was only laying down around 220whp. Now everything is tuned, and at high boost (13.7lbs) i am laying down 310fwhp.
