Default JE pistons and honda rings??? why they dont fit?

Ok have a set of JE 84mm pistons for a b20 and need to replace the rings. So i ordered stock honda rings, but the top ring will not fit in the JE piston. whats the deal? Its like almost the right size just a mm or 2 off. Did honda get me the wrong rings? Also does anyone know the honda part number of the piston rings that will fit these pistons? any help is apriciated

turboex posted this for me.
the rings i have are for a 97 crv. part # 13011-p3f-003. the wierd thing is that only the top ring doesn't fit. these are stock honda rings that i'm trying to put on 84mm je pistons. is the top ring on a b20b and a b20z different. the b20z part# is 13011-phk-003.

I think it would be correct if the JE pistons call for a slightly thicker ring that will be more durable for forced induction/nitrous applications.

I would recommend trying to get a set of rings from JE, the composition of the rings will probably be made from more durable materials than stock.

the top honda ring is thicker than the groove in the piston

well then i was wrong about that notion.

i still would recommend getting a set from JE, or a piston ring manufacturer using JE's ring specs.

Unless spec'd otherwise. The JE piston uses a top ring 1.0mm thick, and 2nd ring 1.2mm. JE or Wiseco can supply rings. Doubt top only though!
